Fri 4th Aug: Sesame urgently needs a new home

Look at Carter's happy face
The new dogs from AFCD Sheung Shui were picked up in the morning, while I went to the  Pokfulam Animal Management Centre later on to take out now-called Carter.  As I mentioned yesterday, Carter was provisionally being held to see if  he would be suitable as a "Test Dog" for the large dogs exemption (to having to be leashed) exam, but failed due to the fact that he was too enthusiastic and bouncy.   I was also told he wasn't good with other dogs as he would bark at them if they passed. However, as is often - almost always - the case, this character assessment was completely wrong and was made when the dog was in a stressful environment and super-excited to get out of his kennel for the short minutes when he was being checked.  In fact Carter is a very sweet dog, and was completely fine with the other dogs at Tai Po as well as being happy to be free and around people.

After leaving AFCD I took Carter to Acorn for the usual check-up and vaccination, and to collect the new Sheung Shui dogs.  It was immediately very clear that these were all breeder throwaways, with the exception perhaps of the schnauzer who appeared to have been desexed, although I will need to check with AFCD as it's possible he has retained testicles (still inside the body).  I feel a surge of loathing for these people and this horrible trade every time I come across ex-breeder dogs and see their condition, knowing that they have led the most awful lives as cash cows before being tossed out like garbage.

This is Charis but Georgia looks the same
The doberman girl, now Georgia, is as lovely and gentle as her assumed sister Charis, who proved to be fine with cats as well as with other dogs and people.
Adorable Esme after a bath

Shih tzu Esme is also a very sweet girl, and was wagging her tail happily as I carried her to the van to sit with me for the drive to Ap Lei Chau.  She was filthy and has bad skin, and by the time I dropped all the dogs off at the Homing Centre I was stinking too, but this is a real gem of a dog who is still young at five years.

Toto is still a youngster at 1 year old
The one year-old bichon, Toto, is rather large for his breed and very active of course, while the schnauzer boy Buzzie seemed very calm by comparison.  He's also still young at three years, and I wonder if his lack of "manhood" was the reason for him escaping the breeder's clutches.
Buzzie will go quickly I'm sure

Anna is a real sweetheart
The poor de-barked beagle girl, Anna, has the figure of a breeding dog as well as a large hernia in her abdomen, but that will be fixed next week.  Most importantly Anna is an incredibly sweet girl, who I'm sure will look a million times better in a very short time.
Frankie is a breeder's version of a bichon

The last dog, Frankie, is registered as a bichon frise but is an apricot colour and an obvious mix of poodly types.  Breeders really don't care what they call dogs as long as the puppies loosely resemble what they're sold as.

All of the small dogs are now at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, open every single day from 10am and 6pm, the same as our Tai Po Homing Centre at 6 Shek Lin Road.

We have an urgent need for a home, or at the very least a new foster, for Sesame.  He came to us as a baby pup and has been in foster ever since.  For no particular reason he wasn't chosen as a young puppy, but it meant that he grew up in a loving home with another dog, until his current age of eight months.  Sadly his time has come to an end in his current temporary home and he has to leave, but without anywhere else to go.  As he has only ever known  life as a family companion it would be devastating for him to have to move to Tai Po, the only alternative if a new home can't be found.  Sesame is a very loving and easy boy, adored by his foster family who can't say enough good things about him.  He is fully vaccinated, licensed and desexed, and ready to move to a forever home as the perfect dog.  Please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com to arrange a meeting with Sesame, or come and see him at his very last Whiskers N Paws afternoon this Sunday.  He needs you, please!
