Fri 17th June: Madison's magic day

Madison-now-Magic

There's some very happy news to start the day, and that's the confirmed adoption of three-legged Madison, now called Magic.  She had to get along with the other two dogs in the home and after a short trial it's working out well, not surprising from Magic's side as she's really the sweetest of dogs.  When she came to us from AFCD she had an obvious injury to one of her back legs, and because it had been left to heal (badly) by itself, Dr Tony at Acorn suggested amputation would be the best option.  Although that might seem to be a drastic way to solve a problem, for a dog it's far better than having to drag a useless and painful leg around, and three legs work perfectly well.  Also the recovery time from an amputation is very fast as there's nothing to heal other than the stitches,  and from a dog's point of view there's no recognition of any disability.  Anyway, Madison-Magic is very happy with her new three-legged life, I'm sure.
Super-sweet little Candy

There was another very sweet and small dog that came at the same time as Madison, and I really don't understand why Candy is still waiting for a home.  She's only just a little over ten kilos in weight, and although not comfortable with walking in traffic or on busy streets, she's a lovely little girl.  As we had no small dog Homing Centre when Candy arrived she had to stay at our Tai Po Homing Centre, and she's still there if you're interested in meeting her.  As always, please start by completing the adoption questionnaire https://hongkongdogrescue.com/.../adoption-questionnaire/ if you're interested in meeting Candy.  I should add that we don't allow meetings before the questionnaire is completed because the home may not be suitable and then both sides waste time.

I'm hoping that I'll have more adoptions to write about with the weekend here again and a few meetings arranged.   There's also the Whiskers N Paws Puppy Party on Sunday, 2pm to 4pm, not to mention a Homing Centre full to the brim of lovely puppies just waiting to meet their new and forever families.

Talking of Centres, I was at Elgin Street today for some office-related business, and although not officially open yet the front-of-house store is looking pretty good as we're filling the shelves with all sorts of merchandise.   In fact one of our ex-HKDR puppies, now a handsome young adult, was choosing a toy for himself  when I arrived.  Our in-house trainer, Cactus, has been putting together training and workshop schedules for the lower floor, and we should soon be able to start accepting reservations for July.  Please look out for information if you're interested in finding out more.
