Fri 21st May: Just happy stories today

Yesterday's post didn't have an accompanying photo at the top, so you may have missed seeing it.  The story of the smuggled puppies and kittens has now been covered by all Hong Kong media, but in case you want to read what I wrote here's the link: https://sallyhkdr.blogspot.com/2022/05/thurs-19th-may-another-reason-not-to.html

Coby is such a great little dog

To change the mood completely I'm only going to talk about adoptions today, starting with Coby's at Tai Po.  This fantastic young dog came to us with a leg injury which took some time to heal, but now he has his own family to love and take care of him.
Gus

I had already told potential adopters of the "rooftop" poodles that if they wanted to be one of the lucky ones they had better come today, and as a result Gus and Gail (now called Piper) went home, with terrier Bounce also leaving first thing in the morning to start her new life.  Others should be heading off early on Saturday, and in the meantime I'm still working my way through the many applications that have been coming in for the poodles.  It's fortunate for them that we're able to pick and choose the homes that we feel can offer the best life, and that applies to all of our dogs and puppies.

Daniel

The happiest adoption at our Kennedy Town Homing Centre was that of puppy Daniel, whose sister Dotty had already found a home.  I had assumed that Daniel's family were coming to choose a poodle, so when I heard they had picked Daniel instead it was a lovely surprise.

As you will know, all of the "rooftop" huskies went straight to foster homes after they arrived, for which once again many thanks.  Also along with the huskies there were a couple of mixed breeds, one of which was Pickle, who may well be a husky-cross but we really don't know.  Pickle has been doing amazingly well in her foster home, but it really is only a temporary situation so we're looking for a forever home for her now.  This is what her foster said about Pickle: "She is the easiest dog I've ever looked after. Very smart and loyal.  She never leaves my side while we are at home, which is very sweet. She loves cuddles, kisses, sleeping, playing with her toys, and staring at herself in the mirror. She's a very curious dog and loves exploring outside.  She loves people and would do best in a home where someone is at home most of the time, at least to begin with, as she gets a lot of comfort from being close to her owner."

Pickle

This attachment to humans and wanting to be with them all the time is very typical of dogs that have lost the home that they knew before, whatever it was.   Dogs find comfort and security in routine, so almost all dogs in new homes will exhibit such anxiety to a certain degree, some more than others depending on many factors.  Remember the settling period applies to every dog, just as shown on the chart.

With Sunday's Whiskers N Paws puppy party coming up, I'll share the updated list of puppies that are now old enough to be adopted.  It's a reminder of how quickly puppies grow to see the newborn "D" Litter on the list, as it seems like only last week that they arrived from AFCD.
