Weds 2nd Feb: The last month at Ap Lei Chau

Thank you for the warm coats

We've certainly made good use of the warm bedding that's been donated, with the fleece blankets being top choice because they're easy to wash and dry. Thank you to everyone who's dropped off bedding and warm coats for the dogs at our Tai Po Homing Centre as it gets really cold up there in the hills, and on Lamma too.

Just as a reminder to those who are new to HKDR or my blog, this will sadly be our final month at Ap Lei Chau before we move to Kennedy Town so we'll have to start being careful about accepting too many donations at the small Homing Centre.  Food, treats, pee pads, newspaper and bedding are always welcome as they can be shared with Tai Po and Lamma if not suitable for Ap Lei Chau, but please don't send pillows/cushions, dog diapers (we can't use these), dog clothes or random bits and pieces.

The timing of the move, which was forced on us rather than being something we wanted, couldn't have been worse, with Christmas, New Year and the Lunar New Year taking up chunks of renovation time. As it is, we've had to split the office and Red Dog Centre from the regular Homing Centre as we couldn't find a space that was big enough to accommodate everything together, and only the Homing Centre will be ready (and maybe not even totally) by the time we have to move at the end of February.   We can continue to make use of the current Red Dog Centre in Ap Lei Chau Main Street for a while, but it's going to be tricky.

Another thing which I need to clarify with the Ap Lei Chau team is whether we'll be taking on new volunteers this month, as the orientation applies to the current Homing Centre and nearby dog park. After we move to Kennedy Town location there will be new dog walking routes to be established, although I've been wondering if we can arrange regular trips in the van to the old dog park, or even other dog parks where the dogs will be able to run free, which they not only love to do but really need.  Unfortunately the dog park on the waterfront at Kennedy Town is very small, and not secure enough to be safe.

Pudlle aka Loki on a warmer Sunday at WNP

I'd really like to mention a puppy who's more than ready to move to his own forever home now, and you can check out his profile on Instagram@why_i_foster because Puddle's siblings stayed at that particular foster home. Puddle is also called Loki in case you're confused, and he's the sweetest boy, perfect for a family home with children.

Ethan (centre) has already been chosen

We have so many puppies in foster care now, and you can ask Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com for the names and locations of those that that ready for adoption. One of the three recent "E" puppy arrivals has already been chosen from his foster home, but he has two gorgeous brothers too.
