Tues 15th Feb: Another cautionary tale

I want to start with the good news, because there's another story - a tragic cautionary tale - which I need to mention because it was something that could so easily have been avoided.  Just like the two baby foster puppies that were taken out for a walk in a country park where they were infected with parvovirus and subsequently died, such mistakes cost lives.

However first the happy adoption news of puppy Willow, who had been staying at Whiskers N Paws with another puppy, Lorna, before being introduced to her new family.  She'd already been to visit their home before the adoption was confirmed, and I know she's going to have a great life there.

Lorna's siblings were in another foster home, actually a very nice and caring one, but they made the fatal mistake of using an unsafe or ill-fitting harness when out walking.  Lily slipped out of the harness and ran into the road where she was hit by a taxi and killed.  Everyone is obviously devastated, but that doesn't change the fact that Lily is now dead, and that many other dogs have also slipped out of their harnesses.  We do ask that all (foster) dogs wear both a safe harness and a non-slip collar to ensure that if one fails there is always a safety net, but until it happens to them no one actually imagines that such accidents occur.

Information shown in our free adoption booklet

Harnesses should be the "H" style, or Easywalk types which have the ring at the front, and never ones that can be pulled off without  unfastening.  You can test the security of any harness by trying to pull it off yourself, and if you succeed then either the harness is the wrong type or it's too loose.

Edward looks like his mother

As you know, we have many puppies in foster homes waiting to be chosen, and one of those is Edward, the last of three gorgeous "E" brothers.  As with all potential adoptions, please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/ if you would like to meet Edward, or any other dogs and puppies.
