Fri 11th Feb: Puppies on the move

Trisha and Tyrion

There's a new litter of puppies on the move as the "T" babies reach adoption age.  In fact I have to make a correction on the photo I shared yesterday, mistakenly labelling the puppies as Edward and Evan when in fact they're Trisha and Tyrion.  They will have an adoption interview this weekend, and with luck they'll be off to a new home together, while siblings Tyler and Tabby are going to be staying in their now-Failed Foster home.  The remaining two also have meetings arranged, and if everything goes according to plan that will mean all of the "T" puppies being adopted.  Wish them luck!

Flint-now-Jameson is finally home

One more puppy made the big move from foster to his forever home, and that's Flint, one of three foundlings taken in as newborns by Instagram@why_i_foster.  Flint is now Jameson, and he and his big sister are already playing non-stop.  If you think I mentioned Flint's adoption in an earlier post you'd be right, but there was a delay after he had a bad reaction to his vaccination, which was wrongly diagnosed (as parvovirus) by the vet.  A few days later Flint was back to normal and was ready to move out.

Teddy heading home

Teddy was the lucky Ap Lei Chau dog today, and he went home with promises to provide him with lots of play opportunities.  Teddy just loves the dog park and running, jumping and chasing with all of his friends, so that was an important part of letting him go.

The Cricket Family

Three other dogs also left the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre today, but they went to the Lamma Home for Small Dogs, a new name for what I previously referred to as the Lamma Home for Small Delinquents.  Since the dogs that are currently living there can no longer be described as difficult (except maybe funny little Banjo) I think the name change is appropriate, and the only reason River, Blanche and Brandy were moved is so they can gain more confidence.  All three are very timid and too scared to go out for walks, so hopefully having a bigger space and an outside garden to run around in will allow them to open up.  We also considered the upcoming move to the busier environment of Kennedy Town, knowing they would never be able to deal with the traffic or make any progress there.

Many dogs have varying degrees of behaviour issues, some being genetic and others due to pets being forced to live in an unnatural human world⛊ Our very experienced trainer, Cactus Mok, has followed up on thousands of adopted dogs, with some of those cases involving separation anxiety. Studies have shown that even genetics can play a role in separation anxiety, and it's simply not true that only rescued dogs or those with previous bad experiences have separation anxiety (Bradshaw et al., 2002). You can join the webinar by Cactus covering this particular topic (Catonese only) later this month.
