Thurs 9th Feb: Please make appointments to meet the dogs and puppies

Ethan moved from foster to his new family

The days are passing by very quickly, and it will soon be time for us to leave our much-loved Ap Lei Chau space and move to Kennedy Town.  Iris has been extra busy with getting the new Homing Centre ready for the dogs and puppies, but everything has been delayed by the Lunar New Year holiday and the additional difficulties caused by the ever-increasing restrictions, but yes, we are still open every day for adoptions.

I do however need to ask that all potential adopters interested in meeting the dogs and puppies at Ap Lei Chau or Tai Po make an appointment to visit before coming, so we can avoid any crowds, especially at weekends.  For the young puppies, we have many in foster homes as I've mentioned several times previously, so Cindy can arrange for mutually convenient meeting times, just like she did for puppy Ethan.  Check out the video for Ethan's two brothers, Edward and Evan, and let Cindy know if you would like to meet them by email foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.

The timing of the move from Ap Lei Chau is going to be very tight, and Iris and I were discussing how we were going to deal with all of the dogs and puppies by the moving-out deadline at the end of February.  I will take some of the most timid small dogs to Lamma, and ten older puppies will have to make a premature move to Tai Po, meaning slightly earlier than we would normally send puppies to the big homing centre.

Goji

There are some dogs that we really hope can be in homes before moving day because they don't really fit in any of the possible places.  One of these is shiba inu Goji, who currently stays upstairs at the Ap Lei Chau Centre, but separated from the other dogs.  He's fine with humans and just needs a home (without children) where he can be the only dog.

We posted cocker spaniel Phaedra again on our HKDR Facebook page because she too needs a home, and as long as she has a pile of toys to choose from she's a happy girl.  Her only requirement is that she's not in a busy neighbourhood because although she's not noisy at home, she does bark at strangers passing by.  Again we can't send her to a home where there are children.

Phaedra loves toys!

Being an upstairs dog too, Plum is overlooked by adopters, but she's come such a long way since arriving at the Homing Centre that it would be lovely to see her adopted.  She's a small-medium size, and was one of a cruelty case that meant she (and the others from that case) had to spend almost a year at AFCD.

Petite Plum is ready for a home

One dog that we don't need to move anywhere is Ruby, because she has a home to go to and will have left before the big date.  Ruby's lookalike relative, River, is one of the timid dogs that will have to go to Lamma, but I think she'll enjoy having a garden to run around in and hopefully that will give her the confidence she's missing at the moment.  If you have another dog at home to be River's friend, and you would like to adopt this gorgeous scruffy girl yourself, she's available.

River is beautiful but still too scared to go for walks
