There's really always something happening, in fact lots of things happening, starting with the very welcome donation today of organic meat bones for the dogs from GrowsFresh (https://www.facebook.com/growsfresh) which were tried out on the Lamma dogs with great success. Within seconds of the bags being opened each dogs had chosen their bone and carried it off to start the chewing, and I was able to enjoy some quiet time for a change.
I know most Hong Kongers aren't too familiar with Ap Lei Chau, a small island off Aberdeen which has managed to evade development for a long time. It's one of the reasons we chose the area as our base, because rents were affordable and the local population tolerant of dogs (in general). However the inevitable is happening thanks to the arrival of the MTR, and bit by bit the old buildings are being torn down to be replaced by high-end residential towers, and soon the whole face of Ap Lei Chau will be forever changed. As we watched all the buildings around the Homing Centre disappear we knew it wouldn't be too long before we would also lose our "home", and today the hunt for somewhere new began. We love Ap Lei Chau and want to stay there, but the options are obviously limited. I'll keep you updated on the progress.
Tickle's not well so all pups are on hold |
If you read my blog on a regular basis you will know that we recently received ten small puppies and six small-medium adults at our Ap Lei Chau Centre. We have no idea where these dogs and puppies come from, it's always the rescue grapevine that lets us know that there are some coming our way, and as such there are times when one or more of the puppies turns out to be sick. When one of the new puppies, older and blind Tickle, was unwell today we packed all of the pups off to ALCVC to be kept isolated and under observation, so for the time being they're not available to meet or to adopt.
However we're picking up five gorgeous new puppies from AFCD Sheung Shui on Friday morning, and they'll go straight to foster homes to avoid any risk of infection.
Foster homes ensure that puppies adopted directly from their temporary families won't have been in contact with anything infectious, and it's the ideal situation for the puppies on every level. We currently have the "P" litter of smaller-sized puppies (who won't grow into large adults) available to meet in their foster homes, so please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com to arrange.

Today's new poodle girl |
Another new small dog came today, a ten year-old female poodle. She'll need to have her license updated and have a proper health check, but she's a sweet little dog.
Berry is exceptionally gentle |
Older puppy Berry is another really sweet dog and perfect for a family with children. Although still a puppy, Berry is incredibly calm and gentle, even with the smallest and youngest of our puppies. I can highly recommend this lovely girl.
I've been visiting my sick Lamma dog Haggis who's staying at Concordia for treatment for diabetic ketosis, and I was happy that I got a small response from him today, at least recognition that it was me. It's a slow recovery process and it's been quite shocking to see him in such a bad way, but I can only hope every day will bring improvement.
Berry looks fantastic! Such a happy smile! Good luck darling. XXX
