Mon 10th May: Getting back on track

Puppies heading back to the Homing Centre

Having been in total panic about the potential for parvovirus and/or distemper showing up in the recent intake of puppies, every time any of the other puppies even blinked we sent them off for testing and they all came back negative.  What a relief!  In fact all of the hospitalised puppies were released today other than Tickle,  so we can start going through the adoption applications once more.  Thanks again to Dr Denise, Rocky and the vet nurses at ALCVC for taking such good care of our precious little ones.

Kira is finally back home

There was more very good news today that runaway dog Kira was finally caught, giving hope to others who are still out there.   If these dogs can find a source of water (most important) and food, they will settle in one area, and once that's established a trap can be placed.  That's why reported sightings are so valuable, so if you know there's a lost dog in your area please do contact the owner if you spot any dog you think could be the missing one.  I know ex-HKDR Checker is still out there somewhere, and I really really hope there'll be another happy ending to this case before too long.

Checker is still missing

Other very good news regarding puppy Esme is that the heart murmur which was first reported has resolved itself, so Esme's planned adoption will be going ahead (promised photo to follow).  It's not unusual for young puppies to show symptoms that appear to be serious, whether heart-related or structural.  We've seen quite a lot of very bendy legs and joints that look terrible, but as the puppy grows everything straightens out and becomes normal.

Lola's bendy legs will straighten as she grows

Another happy adoption was that of Wilfred, who had to be banished to the wilderness of the Red Dog Centre before being offered a foster home for rehabilitation.  Just like other Red dogs who are given the chance to prove themselves, Wilfred's behaviour improved to the point where he was ready to go to a forever home, and that took place today.  Thanks to his foster parents, who still have corgi Bonnie in their home, and Wilfred's new family for changing a beautiful dog's life for ever.

Handsome Wilfred is adopted!

I've previously mentioned one particular dog who isn't actually with us because she's not good with other dogs, and I just wanted to give her another shot at finding a home. Her homelessness isn't due to her being abandoned, but is due to her owner becoming incapacitated and unable to take care of a dog.

Summer the bull terrier needs a home

Bull terriers are known for their loyalty and loving nature, but for whatever reason (usually lack of socialisation as puppies) Summer can't be around other dogs even if she's fantastic with people.  Given her age of seven years, and the fact that she's been in kennels for the past two years,  the ideal home would be one with a large garden, and obviously no other dogs, so Summer could at least have safe space to run around freely.   I think having a loving family is more important than anything at this stage, so please let us know if you can offer Summer that home she needs.
