There seems to be a general misconception that if you cross one particular breed with another you'll get a litter of identical crossbreeds, for example all of those designer "doodles" or "pomskis" or whatever. Genetics and nature doesn't work like that though, so actually what you get are some that are "perfect" (of course they are all perfect in reality) and some that have the wrong type of coat or look. In the world of breeders these "wrong" ones are killed.
There were some perfect examples of this in the dogs we took in today, with one beautiful puppy being what I call a big-little dog, meaning he looks as though he should be big (as an adult) until he stands up and you see the short legs. He also has an overbite, but that's only visible when you open the mouth.
Another puppy (bottom right in the grid) looks like a young regular mixed breed but she's actually around seven months and just a small size. The dogs arrived too late for me to be able to give them all names so that's a job for Wednesday.
We had decided to move "Little" Eagle to Tai Po from Ap Lei Chau after he was returned to us as a big Eagle and was playing too roughly with sweet Ned. Just after having agreed on the move, the perfect home was offered so Eagle has left, but not for Tai Po as originally intended.
I went to the Ap Lei Chau upstairs office area to visit ex-Lamma dog Piggy, now fully settled with the other dogs of the Shy Squad. She was excited to see me, which was lovely of course, but I feel so happy seeing her with her new friends (that's her with Alex in the photo) and having a great time.
