Thurs 5th Nov: A horrible day for poodle Tara

Is it really almost the weekend again? It seems so, and hopefully there'll be more visitors translating into adoptions, especially at our Tai Po Homing Centre where there are SO many really sweet and wonderful dogs hoping to catch the eye of the family who will take them home.

Over at Ap Lei Chau Summer was a very popular girl, a recent addition from AFCD, and she had several nice offers of a home so it was really a matter of who came first in the end.  Now she's adopted, so we can concentrate on the other smaller dogs and puppies.

Poor little poodle Tara had to have the first of two mammary strips today, meaning one side was done and the second surgery will be carried out at a later stage.  It's a horrible and painful operation which basically means removing the entire underside where mammary masses have formed, and because it covers such a large area it has to be done in stages.  On top of that ten teeth were extracted, so it wasn't a pleasant day all round.  If anyone can foster Tara during her recovery it would be helpful, and if the foster home is close to Concordia Pet Care for post-surgery check-ups, even better.  Please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com if you can look after Tara, and be warned she's a very sweet dog so you might just fall in love.

How do you avoid female dogs getting mammary tumours?  Have them desexed while they're still young.

The never-ending influx of puppies continued today with the arrival of four new little ones, thankfully not milk-drinking age but still too young to be adopted as singletons.  We have lots of puppies that are the perfect age for adoption available so these little ones can wait.
