Sat 14th Nov: Our Homing Centres are like home to many

What an amazing change in circumstances for beautiful Shanti, adopted today and starting her new life. She was one of a pair that had previously been kept in a cage so even the move to Tai Po was like going to heaven for her, but now the real fun begins as she joins her family.

For many dogs our Homing Centres are a huge step up from their previous lives, and the update from Samuel's adopter in Hong Lok Yuen was proof of that.  He said Samuel was fitting in well and was a lovely and well-behaved boy (as we already knew), but when going for walks he kept wanting to head back to the Homing Centre.   As a reminder, Samuel had been one of the cruelty case dogs from the "Wonderland" shelter where dogs and cats had been abandoned to starve to death.  Those that were rescued were sent to AFCD while waiting for the court hearing to take place, and that took almost a year.  By the time Samuel, and the many other dogs involved, were released for re-homing they had been through a lot of suffering and "prison" time, so the freedom and friendship of Tai Po must have been amazing, not to mention the walks, the love and care they received.  It will take a while for Samuel to realise he has a home of his own now, and he'll never be coming back.
