It's a funny thing, although maybe to be expected, but when we get new dogs in and the photos are shared here and on the HKDR Facebook and Instagram pages, there's always a flurry of interest from potental adopters which sometimes sees the dogs being taken home, but is often short-lived enthusiasm until the next new dogs arrive. Shanti came with her companion Benny from life in a cage, and the usual enquiries poured in resulting in the shyer of the two being adopted but Shanti being left behind, even though almost all requests to meet were for her. I can't explain or understand this phenomenon, it's just the way it is, so sweet and very pretty Shanti is still available and waiting to meet the family who will actually take her home.
Some more Ap Lei residents made the move to Tai Po today, one of them being Junket, a funny girl who took quite a while to let go of her fear-based behaviour after I took her out of AFCD. She's been staying upstairs in the office, and although never a biter she would bark furiously at me and anyone else she didn't recognise. I don't know that Junket will ever be chosen for adoption, but I (we all) hope she'll enjoy the extra space and new friends at Tai Po.
Gabby and Grover came back from their foster home where they moved to after their rescue as very young babies. It's hard for the foster parents to let go of puppies they've bottle fed and seen change from helpless babies to strong and healthy pups, and as always I can't thank our foster parents enough for the work they do. It's not easy caring for almost-newborns and having to feed every few hours, but seeing this gorgeous pair now (admittedly looking rather worried at the change of circumstance) makes it worth the trouble.
Unfortunately the online adoption questionnaire is still not available, something that is a problem with the provider, not at our end, so if you're interested in adopting please send an email to info@hongkongdogrescue.com giving us some basic information about what kind of age, size and type of dog you're looking for. I hope everything will be up and running normally soon.
