Fri 6th Nov: Sad-but-happy moves

Making the decision to move dogs from the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre to the big Tai Po Centre isn't an easy one, as the dogs in question have usually come to us as puppies so both staff and volunteers have seen them grow and love them almost as their own.  However the extra space at Tai Po and experience of meeting lots of new people, including hopefully adopters, can mean the difference between staying with HKDR for ever or finding a real home, so today older puppy William and young shy Feta made the move.

William will be fine as he can play with the other young dogs and new puppy recruit Xylo, while Feta will probably take a while to settle and make new friends (the photo shows her with her two Ap Lei Chau "besties" Alex and Emma). However she's a very sweet and gentle dog so we all have our fingers crossed that someone will want to adopt her before too long.

Take a look at this video of Meg and Xylo playing to see what happens at Tai Po when new dogs start to relax: https://www.facebook.com/hkdogrescue/videos/1235866806783797

More dogs and older puppies from Ap Lei Chau will be following William and Feta soon, as we've had such a big intake of puppies that we have to create space for them as much as anything else.

It's a great feeling to be able to close the file on a litter of puppies as they're all adopted, and it seems as though that's soon going to be the case for the "Z" puppies after one more was adopted today and the remaining two have interviews.  These little girls and boys were twice lucky, once by being brought to us when they were because they were so heavily infested with fleas, ticks and worms that they would surely not have survived for much longer, and then all finding loving foster homes where they were taken care of so well, vet visits included.  The icing on the cake are of course the forever homes, some with their foster families and others with new adopters, and either way it's a good feeling knowing they are all safe and loved.
