Sun 8th Dec: All sorts of happy stories

Little June is the last of the Seasons Litter left
We had a wonderful day today although a very long one, but all that matters is it meant one more puppy finding a home.  I'll tell that story in a minute because I wanted to start by sharing regular volunteer photographer Eric Tang's beautiful memories of the afternoon at Whiskers N Paws  Puppy Adoption Day 8 December 2019.  Eric's photos are always perfect but I think this particular set is a winner.

Ora is now officially Leila
Quite a few puppies left for foster-with-a-view-to-adopt rather than straight out adoption, and while we do obviously prefer that puppies are given a guaranteed home it's understandable that for first-time dog owners it can be a daunting commitment.  One such family had taken puppy Ora home on that basis two weeks ago, and although there were some teething problems - literally - at first, with the help and support of our trainer Cactus it all worked out and Ora officially became Leila today.

One of the puppies taken at the last minute was little Winter, and that leaves the smallest of the Seasons litter - June - left.  It's funny because I thought all of these puppies would go as soon as they came to us as they're so lovely and a small size too, and June is the smallest of them all.  I'm not worried that she'll be left behind because even when she's an older puppy she'll still be small and very adoptable.
The pups look alike, they're just different colours

New baby Jada was adopted today

We had lot of new puppies who had only just come to us from AFCD, and they're all really very lovely.  Although they are very similar in looks as far as body shape and face is concerned, they are different colours except Miley and Merlin who are both black.  As it happens only these two weren't chosen, and you can meet them any day at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre.

Older puppies Maddie and Rio joined the younger puppies on the terrace today, and while on previous weekends they'd stayed inside as I'd been worried they'd be too rough with the little ones, they were absolutely fine and perfectly behaved.  Maddie is the cuddler of the two while Rio is the comedian and always running around having fun.  She loves water and digging in the water bowl, or being sprayed by the hose.  If you're an active person or family who live near the sea, Rio would love to come home with you.  She's quite a small size but a real pocket rocket in terms of energy.

Big puppy Origami is adopted
I was really happpy to receive  a message from Iris at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre telling me that big puppy Origami had been adopted.  In contrast to little Rio, Origami is a very laid-back kind of guy, who I'm sure would be happy leading a sedate and couch potato life.  Often the very big dogs are the ones who require less exercise, and as puppies they really shouldn't be taken for very long walks as it can adversely affect their joints.

There was more very happy news from Tai Po when Stanley Barracks boy Stan was taken home.  Stan has a very big lookalike family spread around Hong Kong, mostly boys but with a couple of aunties too. I'm not sure if it would ever be possible for them all to meet up for a grand reunion but it's a lovely thought.

Senior golden retriever girl Mabel was also taken home on a foster-with-a-view-to-adopt basis, and I really hope this will become her forever-until-the-end home.
Stan's going home!

Finally the story I mentioned at the start, the very late adoption wasn't supposed to happen that way but the dogs that were due to be coming to us in the afternoon, via Catherine's Puppies and Kaz of Freedom Rides, were handed over to them very late, in fact in the evening.  I already had a home lined up for the lab-alike puppy, but in the end Kaz very kindly drove her over to the new home at 9pm at night.  Of course we were all on our phones and keeping in touch, and in the end everything worked out as planned.
This lucky pup was hand delivered by Kaz

The other new dogs will be brought to Ap Lei Chau on Monday, again thanks to Kaz of Freedom Rides.
