Fri 13th Dec: Lucky for some

So much seems to happen on a daily basis that as I sit down to write my blog I really have to think hard to remember everything.  We had more dogs arriving at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre and I had already told AFCD I'd be going to take out another of the cruelty case dogs.
Tawny is a survivor, just 2 years old

New arrival Renee is 2 years old and a lovely girl

Billy is a wonderful dog and very easy
If you don't know the story about these dogs there's a video taken by the SPCA when they first went to the shelter https://www.facebook.com/SpcahkEng/videos/487124888564096/.  I do have to warn you that it's very upsetting, but it's why those dogs that survived are so deserving of a home.  Some of them are quite timid but others are completely fine, which is amazing given the story.  Billy was the first of what I call the cruelty case dogs that I took from AFCD, and he's a happy and friendly boy who would be suitable for any home,  and you can meet him and the others at our Tai Po Homing Centre.  Today's rescue was a young female I called Tawny because of her colour, and she's a shy girl but not at all aggressive, and I think she'll be fine once she's settled into her new life.  If you would like to sponsor the care of these cruelty case dogs, please email Ellen at lifesaver@hongkongdogrescue.com for details of our monthly sponsorship options.

It's understandable why some of these cruelty case dogs may have a few issues to overcome, but once again it's the poodles that seem to be the breed that suffer most from mishandling, poor training and a total lack of appreciation for being what they are.  They are a very intelligent breed and also very active, but most are bought to be lap dogs, surrogate babies to be dressed up and paraded in buggies, something which I equate with a form of abuse.  If treated well and properly they are great dogs, just like little Smiley who was adopted today.  She's happy and well-adjusted, and she's also very lucky that she's escaped the life that many poodles lead.
Smiley is how a poodle should be, very sweet and happy

An example of what I'm talking about came to us today, a one year-old poodle boy with a fear of hands and people that can only have come about by previous treatment.  He's young enough that we hope he can be rehabilitated but he'll probably never be suitable to be with children.
Mercury will need time to settle and calm down

I was at Acorn today with the three new dogs as well as three puppies having their due vaccinations.  For lack of space elsewhere these puppies are staying on Lamma, and they're the loveliest characters you could imagine.  You can meet Geogia, Echo and Willow on Sunday at Whiskers N Paws, and I can promise you free kisses from them all. Here's a reminder of the gorgeous puppies from last Sunday Puppy Adoption Day 8 December 2019.
Georgia or Echo (they are identical)

One puppy who won't be back at Whiskers N Paws is Ruby, because she was adopted today. Have a great life Ruby!

Also leaving the Homing Centre today after a very short stay with us was Russo the Jack Russell.  She's going to be staying with another ex-HKDR dog who was called Gadget before he was adopted, and if they get on it will be a pemanent adoption.
Russo came from AFCD on Thursday

Ruby going home
