Mon 12th June: Hello typhoon and and goodbye Porto

The family of 4 poms from AFCD
Today was obviously a write-off as the first typhoon of the year passed by,  thankfully very quickly and without too much fuss, but there was one sad casualty although not weather-related.   Senior pomeranian Porto was one of a family of four little oldies who came to us as from AFCD as a group, and one by one they have succumbed to age and breed-related conditions leaving only Pimms, who is lucky two ways as he was the only one to be adopted.
Porto RIP

Still, Porto was in a very caring foster home, and it was at the end of the afternoon and during the mad rush of people when the Typhoon Signal 8  went up, that Porto collapsed and had to be taken to a vet where he sadly passed away.  As always we are all extremely grateful to Porto's foster for giving him love and comfort at the end of his life, and for the last-ditch effort to save him under very difficult circumstances.

I had been planning to go to AFCD to take out a senior husky today, but obviously that didn't happen and I won't be able to make it there until Thursday now.   It would be lovely if there was at least a foster home lined up for him, as even if the rain has stopped the heat will be back and that's no fun for a husky.  I don't have many details other than knowing he's thirteen years old and a nice boy and very friendly.

Beautiful Harper
I promised a better photo of the new seven year-old ex-breeder golden retriever girl, now called Harper, so here it is. She's a very sweet and lovely character, so if you are interested in adopting you probably know the drill by now.  Please complete the questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt) as a first step.

Please remember that there are literally hundreds of gorgeous dogs and puppies of all ages needing homes, but it's the breeds that are chosen more often than not.  If I could explain that mixed breeds are just that, still breeds but a selection of a few mixed up in one body and personality, and the best bits of all, maybe I could persuade more adopters to see them in a different light.  The old perception of mixed breeds being unreliable, scary and dangerous is so completely wrong as every dog is the result of many things, most of all how it is treated and trained.  In my mind, and having spent over thirty years rescuing and re-homing, the mixes are by far the best.
