Fri 2nd June: A wet weekend ahead

Moira is a very sweet and small Sheltie girl
I went back to AFCD again today, with the van this time, to pick up a Sheltie I knew was there, as well as a lone baby pup.  I'd been told the Sheltie was three years old but she turned out to be five, still quite young and incredibly sweet.  I asked the reason for her being surrendered and was told it was because she had been living in Public Housing where there is a strict No Pets rule.  It would be nice if this policy could be relaxed, or even done away with completely, but until then anyone who buys a puppy while living in a No Pets building is asking for trouble.  We see so many dogs being given up when their owners are forced to choose between eviction or getting rid of their pets, and while it's very sad for both sides I do wonder why people do it.  We even get enquiries from potential adopters who know very well that their building doesn't allow dogs, and of course we have to say no. It doesn't matter that "lots of other people have dogs" because they too may receive the dreaded letter one day. These dogs that are kept in No Pets homes are often hidden away, or taken out in the dead of night so they aren't seen.  I don't know if this was the case with the Sheltie, now called Moira, but she's overweight for sure, but once slimmed down she's going to be a beautiful little dog.

Some of our avaiable small dogs
While I was at Acorn with Moira and the new puppy (Tiffany) I met two of our shih tzus with their foster.  Sugar and Candy are the most adorable little dogs, and they would be perfect for a home with children or people with allergies.  Shih tzus are one of the breeds that have the type of coat that doesn't shed like most dogs do, although no dog is truly hypoallergenic.   If you are interested in adopting Sugar and/or Candy, or any dog with HKDR, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt).

With the weekend coming up I hope to have some good news about dog adoptions even if the weather forecast isn't looking too hopeful.  I'll be at Whiskers N Paws with the puppies as always of course, and to get off to a good start little Muffin's adoption has been confirmed.
Muffin's beautiful sister Pizza is still available for adoption

I also hope the rain won't put off Instagrammer Allan Dixon's planned visit to Whiskers N Paws on Sunday as I'm looking forward to seeing him rolling on the ground with the puppies to get those famous selfie shots! http://hk.apple.nextmedia.com/realtime/supplement/20170602/56769835
