The four new dogs from AFCD |
There are days that are just ridiculously insane, and today was exactly that. We had the four new dogs from AFCD that are now staying at our Elgin Street location, along with the eight puppies that arrived and stayed the night before heading out to their respective foster homes after their vet check. They did a good job of wrecking the shop area during the night too, and I suppose the best that can be said about that is they must have had a lot of fun!
There was no time for names for the new puppies |
There was an amazing response to the call for urgent foster homes, which meant that the eight puppies could move out very quickly, and there are other homes now standing by for the arrival of further puppies.
I've written before about the explosion of puppy births as a direct result of the Covid restrictions that meant TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return) almost ground to a halt, and there is now a huge excess of unwanted puppies desperately in need of homes. Again, something that I've spoken of many times, the females will themselves come into season at five to six months of age, and will produce even more puppies if they're not desexed early enough. This is why TNR is absolutely vital and it must be supported and financed by the HKSAR Government. The Animal NGOs cannot continue to financially support the government, and the situation for everyone is at crisis level.
To add to the craziness of today our HKDR website crashed, so potential adopters and fosters couldn't complete any application forms and I was having to send the forms by email. Our Foster Coordinator, Cindy, is away, so I was trying my best to do her job, nowhere near as efficiently I should add. Apologies to everyone who might have been wondering what was happening, and thanks for your patience. I'm happy to say that the website www.hongkongdogrescue.com is now up and running again.
We might be taking in some more small-medium adults, but I will wait for confirmation of what and when. There was one little terrier type that came with the eight puppies, and she is now called Tizzy. The vet at ALCVC estimated her to be two years old, but as everything was so manic today I haven't got a photo yet.
All of what we do costs money, so we're extremely grateful to a particular long-term supporter and adopter who has offered to match all donations for Valentine's Day, up to the sum of $100,000!
