I can say one thing about life with HKDR, it's never dull, and things happen at the last minute that need dealing with immediately. When living animals are involved there's no "to do" pile to see to when there's time, and lunch for the Homing Centre staff may be any time, if at all. Luckily that's not every day, but being flexible about the work schedule is certainly essential when dealing with dogs and puppies.
Abby is a bit older than the other pups |
There was last-minute activity at HKDR@Elgin after two puppies had been picked up for fostering (with a view to keeping one of them), and a few minutes later there was another offer of the same for Abby, one of the two that had just left. I hoped that I would be in time to stop Abby from leaving Elgin Street, but I was just too late and she and Annie were already in their foster home, luckily not too far from Soho. Also luckily, the couple who had taken Abby were very understanding and brought her back to exchange for another, Ayla, while Abby went home with the other family.
I'll be able to share proper photos of the HKDR@Elgin puppies after volunteer photographer Elena Mathew has been on Tuesday to get some good shots. Until now all I have are the snaps taken very quickly when the puppies first arrived, and which were for identification purposes only. The puppies were scared and it was very much a hold-and-shoot scenario, with no posing involved. As I said before, the photos don't in any way show how beautiful the puppies are, and I'm looking forward to being able to promote then properly.
Still talking about HKDR@Elgin, we're seriously in need of weekday volunteers to help out, and you can email elgin@hongkongdogrescue.com to sign up for a shift. This is the only Centre where we don't require volunteers to wait for an orientation slot, but new volunteers will have to train on-site before being able to take the dogs out for walks.
Hailey and her new family |
Hailey was today's lucky puppy leaving Kennedy Town, and I know there's another that will be going home on Tuesday.
Another dog also left Tai Po for a trial with the resident dog in the home, also ex-HKDR, so for now I won't give her name although I think there's a very good chance she won't be coming back.
Great news!
