Nobu |
More happy news from our HKDR@Elgin space as recent arrival Nobu, a very sweet shiba inu, was adopted, while little Stella also had her new home confirmed after a weekend meeting.
I'm always happy about adoptions as you know, but Stella has stuck in my mind because of her story as a young mother, and her escape from the van as she was being transported to us with her puppies. In fact her adopter-to-be is the person who found Stella the day after she got lost, so it's really a very appropriate and happy ending.
The new small dogs at Elgin Street went to the vet for a health check, licensing and age assessment, and for anyone interested in adopting these are the ages that were assigned by the vet. We can't guarantee that they're absolutely accurate, but we can say for sure that these are all young dogs.
Tompkins, Tawny, Taurus and Tammy are estimated to be two years old, Tootsie and Teddy are three.
I have been busy reading and replying to job applications from those kind enough to respond to the posts on Facebook and Instagram, and honestly there's so much talent and sincerity about wanting to help the dogs and be involved that I would love to employ just about everyone. In reality that can't happen, but I hope that in the end we will find just the right people for the job.

What you can't see from the social media posts or my blog is a lot of what actually goes on behind the happy adoptions and the new arrivals. With the puppies at best it's just regular cleaning up after what are essentially pooping machines (with sharp teeth), but there's also sickness sometimes. The adults are easier in one way, but they may also have health problems, or perhaps issues from their past. Emergencies always seem to happen at the end of the day, like Mochi's broken leg or cases of bloat that have to be dealt with immediately.
Talking of Mochi, Dr Tony at Acorn performed the surgery and it all went well, so hopefully the leg will be as good as new after recovery. Mochi is a young dog (as well as being very beautiful), so she should heal quickly.

There's also the sad fact that a dog's life isn't as long as we would like, and already this month we have had to say goodbye to poodle Loopy, and Lamma dogs Fatty, Hattie and Willow. They all reached their senior years, and I believe they had a good life on Lamma.
Sally, am so sorry to hear that you've lost 3 dogs this month from old age in Lamma. RIP to your beloved dogs. XXX
