Benji is very cute but wasn't the healthiest of pups |
I know that there are really just a handful of mongrel "breeds" in Hong Kong like the short-haired tans and curly-tailed blacks (probably the original village dogs), the black fluffies, the black-and-whites and black-and-tans, and they are probably all related, distantly if not closely.
The introduction of pet shops and breeders resulted in a much more diverse selection of size and colour in the mixed breeds so we now see a lot of small sized mongrels, long-haired and multi-coloured, such as Benji at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre. He's not a breed but he's not what you would think of as a typical mutt either, and his sisters were terriers of some kind.
Just as a side note, Benji's lucky sister Olive is moving to Australia, and as part of the import requirements needed to have a breed stated on her license so she is now officially a Jack Russell cross.

Benji's sister Olive is leaving HK |
The most recent baby pups I took from AFCD in Pokfulam were quite different from each other and I didn't know if they were siblings even though they came from the same person (a rescuer). There was little Budgie and short-tailed Lena, plus still-available Jack, who looks very much like a Jack Russell and is probably Budgie's brother.

Little Jack is in a foster home and available |
Today when I went to AFCD to pick up some breeder dog licenses I was told there was one new puppy, surrendered by a young girl. When I saw the puppy it was identical in every way to Lena, including the short tail (and fungal skin infection), so there is no doubt at all in my mind that she is a sister. There was quite a bit of interest in Lena for the short time she was with us, so I'm hoping Lena Mark II will quickly find a home. If you are interested please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt), thank you.

Budgie looked liked a mini Benji |

The pup now at AFCD is 100% Lena's sister |
