Fri 6th Oct: Peak to Fong tickets available today!

Some of the Ap Lei Chau dogs
There were so many new dogs needing to go to the vet and AFCD that my head was swirling with it all, and trying to sort out who was who and who needed what was very confusing.  The first group of ex- breeder dogs went to Acorn in the morning, followed by a second batch which I took in the afternoon, then the combined total came with me to AFCD to have their microchips checked, rabies vaccinations given and licenses issues where possible.

The schnauzers are in a worse condition than the poodles were, with some very sad results of what looks like home surgery.  Two of the dogs have had their top eyelids cut, which may have been someone's idea of how to deal with entropian, and one poor boy will have to have his eye removed completely as there is no eyelid left for protection.  Another male has half of a top lip missing, a clean-edged wound which again looks like it was the result of surgery rather than accident, although for what we will never know.  All of the dogs have ear mites, which is expected in breeder dogs, and they have rotten teeth which will need to be extracted.  I like to keep a photo record of all of the ex-breeder dogs to compare with their appearance a couple of months down the line because I know they will look like different dogs.

The poodles and bichons are starting to move into fosters and forever homes, with Coral's adoption being followed by Emerald (now Emma) and Silver.

Laura last Sunday
In amongst all of the breeder dogs today there were two puppies, Laura and Harvey, both of whom were having their third and final vaccination in readiness for Sunday's Whiskers N Paws.  Times flies when you're a puppy, and it seems like only a week ago that I brought these two sharpei-cross babies home.  Sharpeis are wonderful dogs, and sharpei crosses have the best of both worlds, which means the loyalty and family-oriented disposition of the breed with none of the health issues of a purebreed wrinkly dog.
Harvey is a very gentle boy
