Weds 8th March: Let us help you find your perfect dog

Not a mongrel, but what?
Would you believe it, the day I write that we haven't had any dogs from AFCD New Territories for a long time I receive an email asking if we can accept four very old poms (a family), a corgi and two dogs that are not named as a breed but looks very much like a vizsla (mix ?) from the photo.  The pair are obviously brother and sister and I assume the ex-owner had the parents and failed to desex them.  So the dogs will come to us on Thursday and then we can see the size of the "mongrels" and where they can go, Tai Po or Ap Lei Chau or maybe with a lot of luck, straight into homes.  If you are interested in adopting any dogs please complete the adoption questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt).  We have over six hundred lovely hopefuls, and we can recommend those that would be most suitable for you and your family once we have an idea of what you are looking for in terms of age, size and energy levels.
This is a vizsla

Edmund looks very relaxed in his new trial home
We had yet another example of how a particular home affects a dog, unrelated to any treatment, good or bad.  Little Edmund was adopted by a nice family almost as soon as he came to us, but he didn't stay for long due to his aggression towards the other dog in the home, and the father (or men in general).  We had never seen such behaviour at the Homing Centre where there are of course many other dogs and many male volunteers, but I'm sure what we were told was true.  Edmund didn't have to wait long before being taken by another family who had already two other adopted (larger) dogs from HKDR, and now everything seems to be going really well.  In fact Edmund is already sleeping with the other dogs and sits happily on the son's lap.  This is in no way a judgement or criticism of the first family, just more proof that dogs (animals) are sensitive to the environment and energy of their surroundings and the humans, and sometimes it just doesn't feel right.

Husky Baloo and his new family
The new husky Baloo left Tai Po today for his new home and he also has another ex-HKDR dog to keep him company.  Many adopters come back to find a friend for their single dogs after seeing how much they enjoy playing with others, no matter how much human love and attention they're given. There's just a limit to how interesting a ball or a toy can be to a human, whereas with dogs they will keep going for hours.
