Mon 3rd Oct: More vet bills

Volunteer Andrea and 2 beautiful babies
We've been having email problems for a while now and have just migrated to a new - and hopefully glitch-fee - server.  I didn't have time today to make the switch but everyone else reported suddenly seeing hundreds of unread messages, which is rather scary.  It means not only a big catch-up is necessary but also that we have probably missed homes and fosters and all sorts of things.

We're also still struggling with not having a driver, but I had to go to Acorn anyway with a puppy who didn't seem to be eating enough. I was afraid it was going to be tick fever again but happily it was a simple tummy bug and easily treatable.

Perry has a mouthful of rotten teeth
Some of the new small dogs were also sent to Acorn with Gogovan, among them the basenji who was unlucky enough to miss coming to us at the same time as his two sons.  It was very apparent that this poor dog had never been to see a vet in his life, and underlined why check-ups are essential after a certain age. Perry's teeth are rotten and his gums full of pus, and how anyone can ignore the stench is hard to imagine.  On top of that he almost certainly has kidney disease, and all of this had been simply ignored by his previous owners.

I already know from the dogs that I take from AFCD that for many the solution to age-related health problems is to simply get rid of the dog.  I can understand that sometimes it's the cost of vet treatment that's the issue, but for the majority it's just the hassle of taking care of a senior.

The new shiba inu is just a year old
I found out the ages of the new breeder dogs, with the shiba inu being just a year old.  This poor dog will need surgery on both of his back legs to allow him to walk properly, that's if surgery can help at all.  The diabetic poodle Willis is now in a position to have eye surgery for his cataracts too, so help with either of these large vet costs would be very much appreciated.

Now that the "Game of Bones" gala event is over, it's almost time for the Peak to Fong "big reveal" as T-shirt/ticket sales will begin very shortly.  We expect to sell out very quickly again, so please be ready to buy as soon as the announcement is made.
