Tues 2nd March: A good day for the littl'uns

Poppy, Jasmine and Violet are still available

I've already mentioned the happy news about the little blind poodle Lily, and if all goes well another from this group of nine "Flower Girls" will also be moving from her foster to a forever home this week.

Basil and Bingo

Also from a previous group of senior poodle/bichon that came to us, it was a very happy moment today when Basil and Bingo were taken home on a foster basis, and hopefully they will end up staying forever.  They're both very sweet boys who don't need much in terms of exercise, just lots of love and a comfy soft bed to snooze in.

This was Mops when she arrived in November

Another happy surprise adoption, also a "failed foster", was that of Mops, a poodle cross that again came as part of a mixed group of dogs.  Like so many older females that haven't been desexed, Mops had mammary tumours that need to be removed, and she's been in foster care while this and other health issues have been dealt with one at a time.  Now her forever status has been confirmed, which is fantastic news.

All of the above small dogs came with a variety of age-related health issues, many of which we're still working through meaning visits to the vet almost every day for checks and/or surgery.

Benny was sent straight to the vet

At the other end of the age scale, many of the puppies we take in from individual rescuers arrive teeming with fleas and ticks, both of which can cause serious heath problems, as do intestinal worms.  I'm sure you all know about tick fever by now if you read my blog, but fleas can also be a major issue in very young puppies.  The three that came on Monday were hopping with fleas, so dealing with those is the first thing we do, along with de-worming.  One of the pups seemed to be quite weak so he was sent to Acorn immediately, and with luck it's only the effects of the fleas and worms rather than tick fever.  We'll be monitoring all three pups closely before sending for a re-check in a few days.
3 pups from AFCD

The other three puppies that came from AFCD on the same day seem to be fine, and they're also staying at the Homing Centre while they wait for their vet appointments.

Four Edibles

Earlier litters that arrived as babies in early February and were sent straight to foster homes are now coming close to their eight week mark, and will soon be ready to go their separate ways.  These are The Edibles (fruit and pasta).

Six Edibles

Also up-and-coming but still too young for adoption are the Little Gems. You can see there are plenty of puppies available!
