Sun 7th March: The one left behind

I just wanted to start with this lovely photo by Eagle of two of the puppies staying at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre.  Berry came to us as a tiny baby and has now grown into a beautiful puppy girl, while Abigail is one of three sisters from AFCD.

It so often happens that out of a litter of puppies who are adopted there's one left behind, not for any particular reason other than bad luck.   It happens less than it used to as our homing opportunities are much better than they were in the past, but we still have dogs who are now seniors and the only one from the litter that was never chosen.  That changed today for one of those dogs, one who used to be a Lamma puppy a long time ago and who I remember taking to Whiskers N Paws on Sundays to try his luck.   He was always a sweet boy but it was his siblings that were adopted, leaving him behind and meaning that he eventually moved to Tai Po where he's been living for many years now.  He was well known by the volunteers and was a favourite for hiking as he's such an easy dog, but now he'll be heading off to his forever home, just as soon as we've had an up-to-date health check carried out.  So is he?  Rudolph (photo to follow).

Someone sent a message about some more suspicious baited food that was found today, so please stay vigilant when out walking your dogs.   It's really incredible that even with so much recent publicity, and over the years regarding the infamous Bowen Road poisoner, there haven't been any arrests.   There weren't any specific details of the location of this latest find other than near the Aberdeen Reservoir, but I think it serves as a good reminder that everyone should stay alert wherever you go with your dogs.
