Thurs 4th Feb: Vaccination drive at Tai Po

It was a very busy morning at the Tai Po Homing Centre as we had a "vaccination visit" from 9Lives resulting in free vaccinations for eighty dogs!  That's a very generous donation in kind, and also quite an exercise getting all of the dogs down from their various pens and enclosures and back up again.

Thank you
9Lives Veterinary Emergency Centre - VEC 香港獸醫急症中心  for sponsoring vaccinations for the dogs at HKDR Tai Po Homing Centre! Dr Ryan Moralee, Senior Vet and Head of Primary Care at 9Lives VEC and Vet Technician Tom came on their day off as volunteers to give vaccinations for 80 of our dogs - all in a single morning! Big thanks to all the other volunteers who helped with the process too!

Youngster Bacon had his adoption confirmed after a short trial with the resident dog, and his name is now officially George.
Bacon is now George

The last of the three ex-warehouse dogs, Giggle, is also heading off to her new life meaning another case closed and more happy endings.

The two new dogs arrived at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, both senior poodle/bichon girls, thirteen and fourteen years old. They're going to need considerable veterinary treatment before being ready for adoption, and we'll know more after they've had their health check.

I had my own little drama which actually started the other day when it was exceptionally windy.  One of my Lamma dogs, Batty, a member of the bedroom group, had gone out  onto to the porch roof that the dogs have access to, and either fell or was blown off, landing amongst a group of dogs in the garden area.  I heard the ruckus as this strange dog fell from the sky (as far as the ground floor dogs were concerned) and ran downstairs where I found Batty looking very scared and confused.  He seemed to be otherwise unhurt so I carried him back upstairs, and assumed he'd get over the shock.  However he became more withdrawn and stopped eating, so I feared he had an internal injury that hadn't been apparent, and immediately took him over for an X-ray. That showed a puncture wound in his abdomen which I'd completely missed, so the poor boy is now in hospital and due to have surgery on Friday.

Batty's litter was yet another from the days before we had the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre so nowhere other than Lamma to keep puppies.  He and his siblings were also quite shy, so although they did go to the Sunday Whiskers N Paws puppy afternoons they were never chosen and subsequently grew up with me.  Batty in particular has become a very sweet and happy boy, not at all shy and very playful and I really hope he'll be OK.
