Fri 12th Feb: Kung Hei Fat Choi!

I want to start by wishing all of you a Happy and Prosperous Year of the Ox!  Your support is invaluable to HKDR and the dogs, and is always appreciated.

I finally came up with names for the ten new puppies, and it was a struggle as I try to give group names to help us remember which litter each puppy came from.  Recently that's meant starting each name with the same letter, like the "W Litter", one of whom, Willow, was adopted today from Ap Lei Chau.  I couldn't come up with ten names beginning with a particular letter, so I ended up creating "The Edibles", the boys being pasta variations and the four girls fruit.   Now they're Pasta, Noodle, Udon, Ramen, Soba and Ziti (boys), and Kiwi, Lemon, Mango and Yuzu (girls).  With very young puppies it's impossible to know what the final adults size will be but we can be sure that these won't be small, or probably even medium-sized dogs, and more likely medium-large.
Lucky Willow was adopted today

It also looks as though there'll be three more slightly older puppies arriving at Tai Po in the next day or so, adding to the already considerable puppy numbers staying there.  We don't usually have puppies at the big Homing Centre, but when they're four months or older, or very big like the "J" boys, Jim, Joe and Jack, then there's not really any space for them at Ap Lei Chau.

Please start by completing the adoption questionnaire if you're thinking about visiting either of the Homing Centres to meet the puppies or adult dogs, and you can find it at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

Regarding volunteer applications, I know a lot of people are eager to start helping out but due to the current ban on group gatherings we're not able to hold the usual orientation sessions.  However if you can help on weekdays we can accept individual applications, and we're particularly in need at the Tai Po Homing Centre where there are so many dogs that need walking.  For weekend volunteering please wait for updates on the website link www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/

On a sad note, although Tumbler's death was inevitable I think we expected him to be with us for at least a little bit longer, long enough for everyone to spoil him with special treats and lots of loving attention.  However he chose not to hang around and left us during the night, at least in his own time and very peacefully.
