Even if I'm not posting about confirmed adoptions there have been a few dogs leaving our Tai Po Homing Centre for trials, and potential adopters coming to meet the available dogs and puppies so I hope I'm going to be able to share the good news very soon.
Many, if not most, enquiries are for small-to-medium sized puppies or young adults, and we don't currently have any of that size or age available. However I do need to mention once again that just because a dog is small it doesn't mean it doesn't need much exercise. That's simply not true, and small dogs love to go out just as much as any bigger dog.
One of the group hikes for Valentine's Day |
As I mentioned yesterday there were a lot of lucky Tai Po Homing Centre residents going out for hikes today, and as well as the dogs themselves having fun part of being a volunteer is that you get to meet lots of other people who share your love and interest in dogs. I'm sure that all of our volunteers would love to have a dog of their own, and in fact many go on to adopt their favourite, but they know that having a full-time job and being out of the home all day means it wouldn't be fair. Dogs love having company and aren't by nature solitary animals, so if they had a choice between being left alone all day in an apartment or living at the Homing Centre with a group of their four-legged friends, they would choose the latter.
Even though there might not be a lot of adoptions to write about there's never a day that passes without lots of things going on which need dealing with. As our trainer Cactus does take time off like most normal people do it doesn't mean that there aren't lots of messages for help and advice coming in from adopters, and then I'll reply until Cactus is back at her computer again. There's also inevitably dogs or puppies needing veterinary attention, adoption enquiries, and news of new puppies on their way. At the time of writing we're expecting five babies that will need immediate foster homes to go to on Monday. I think Cindy may have foster homes already waiting to receive any new puppies, but please contact her at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com in case we need more. Everything is provided in terms of food, bedding and whatever, so all that's needed from the foster homes in your care and time.
