Thurs 6th Feb: Lucky Georgia

Georgia and lookalike brother Bamboo at Whiskers N Paws
As promised I have happy adoption news as our lovely puppy Georgia was picked up late afternoon after a precautionary visit to the vet confirmed her runny nose wasn't anything serious (like the dreaded Canine Distemper virus).  Kennel cough is a virus very similar to the human cold and there's no treatment other than time, but we do give medicines in case of subsequent bacterial infection.   Unfortunately, again like the human cold, kennel cough is highly infectious so in a multi-dog environment it tends to spread, but in almost every case the dog or puppy recovers quickly and it's only the first day that the puppy might feel unwell.

Kennel cough is actually a blanket term for a variety of upper respiratory tract infections, so while you can vaccinate against bordatella it doesn't cover all of the other strains that produce the same sort of symptoms.  Foster homes are the best protection against things like kennel cough, so Georgia's lucky brother Bamboo won't be affected, nor any of the other puppies who are staying in their various temporary homes.  They will be at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday as usual, although this week the hours will be shortened to 2pm to 4pm.  As always, if you can foster a puppy please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com for details of what's involved.

There will be one other puppy missing from Whiskers N Paws on Sunday as she's being adopted on Friday, but you'll have to wait to see who it is.
