Fri 5th Jan: Fly away Mary!

Tai Po staff member Yannie seeing Mary off at the airport
If you have followed the story of the Stanley Barracks dogs you will recognise Mary as being related to (mother or aunt of) many of the puppies that have passed through our doors, but I think she is the first to leave Hong Kong, for France to be exact.  Thanks to our flight volunteer for offering to take Mary along as excess baggage, and George of International Pet Travel for being so helpful and generous, both of whom made the process affordable and straightforward.   Taking a dog to Europe, Canada and America is easy because Hong Kong is a declared rabies-free zone, and even other countries with stricter controls on animal imports aren't too difficult if you just check their particular requirements and plan in advance for Australia and New Zealand.   Certainly for the easier countries mentioned there's absolutely no excuse for not taking dogs when you leave Hong Kong.

Friday is the day when I start thinking about the coming Sunday and Whiskers N Paws, and making sure the puppies are ready for their adoption opportunity.   The litter of eight who left AFCD as four week-old babies are almost ready for their debut as singletons but can be adopted any time as a pair, or on a one-plus-foster basis.  Our Sunday volunteer Becky and husband Ted have been taking care of the princesses Beatrice and Eugenie until they can find their new homes, and there are lots of great photos of these beautiful sisters.
Beatrice and Eugenie are two of eight in this litter

The weather's not ideal for being outside on the Whiskers N Paws terrace, but Elke (shown here) doesn't care about a bit of water.  Please come along to meet her and the other available puppies, as I'm going to need the space for new arrivals very soon.

I know it's very early days and the New Year has barely started, but I'm already recruiting for new Events team members for this year's fundraising Gala Dinner in October (as well as other big events).  I wanted to get the basics in place as soon as possible and the theme is already decided for this special Year of the Dog.  We need dedicated and committed volunteers, preferably with experience in events planning and organisation, who can help make this the best gala event ever.  I'm already excited about what has already been promised, but now we need the manpower to make it all work perfectly.  Email me at sally@hongkongdogrescue.com if you are able to help.

We will also have other special events taking place for the Year of the Dog, so contact Eva at eva@hongkongdogrescue.com if you are interested in volunteering.
