Fri 3rd June: Hopper needs a recovery foster

I've had this pool for a few years now and the dogs love it
It's the last day of a slow and very hot week, and the dogs are happiest to stay inside and under the fans where it's cool.   I hate to think about those poor dogs who are kept on rooftops and how they must be suffering now, and for anyone who has the luxury of that extra outside space please make sure there is shade, even if your dog only spends a short time outside.

We do what we can for the outdoor dogs at Tai Po and Lamma, which includes the puppies, and that means sprinklers providing a cooling mist, and splash pools in the enclosures.  Still, for the puppies especially we would love to be able to send them to foster homes where they can enjoy the luxury of air conditioning, and if anyone is able to take in a four-legged guest until he or she finds a forever home please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.
Pups like these have to live outside but they would love to have some air conditioning

I'm particularly in need of a recovery home for a puppy called Hopper, the one who came from AFCD with a broken leg and, as it turned out, tick fever too.  Fortunately it wasn't a serious case and I'm hoping that the red cell count will be high enough to allow for surgery next week, but it can't be done unless there is a place for Hopper to go where he won't be jumped on and pushed around (in a playful way) by other puppies.   He's a very sweet boy, around four months old or slightly younger, and he really needs to get the broken leg fixed so it can be saved.  If anyone would like to meet Hopper with a view to fostering please let either myself or Cindy know.

Even these babies will scream to get out
I was happy to see a short video of new Stanley Barracks dogs Justine and Biba running around at the Tai Po Homing Centre, and to know that any fear was just due to their confinement at AFCD.   No matter how young they are, even puppies hate being shut up in small spaces and will scream and cry to be let out.   Two of the lastest baby litter are being returned for that reason, and they will be at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday and in need of a new foster home, if not a forever family.
