Sat 14th April: Refreshing rain on the way

Meet newcomers Trilby and Milla
It looks as though the rain is finally about to arrive after an incredibly warm and dry March and April-so-far, and I have to say I'm looking forward to it for no other reason than the dogs' watering holes on our walks need refilling.   I'm also not at all bothered about our Sunday Puppy afternoons being affected by wet weather as the purpose-built area inside is available when needed, so please come along to meet all of the youngsters regardless.

The Pug and Dachshund HK Doggie Dash will go ahead of course, and the cooling rainfall if it comes might be welcome too, especially for the pugs.

It's been strangely quiet on the adoption front for a weekend, although we have had quite a few visitors at our Tai Po Homing Centre and I hope we'll be saying goodbye to some of our larger dogs very soon.
Molly (ex Fanta)

I have written about Molly and Oscar several times before but without any luck in finding them a new family, so as an update I want to share both the South China Morning Post article that was published today, as well a description of both dogs in David's own words.

I really hope that somewhere in Hong Kong there is just the right home waiting as a final closure for the Coates family.  Please email me at either info@hongkongdogrescue.com or sallyandersen@hongkongdogrescue.com if you can help, thank you.
Oscar

This is from David Coates’ heart while laying in his hospital bed.
It was a happy day in the summer of 2016 when we went down to Hong Kong Dog Rescue in Ap Lei Chau and picked out Molly & Oscar as our new forever dogs. When we first adopted them, Molly was 6 months old and Oscar was 2 months old. We previously had Bella and Tigger who were also rescue dogs for 15 and 16 years and when they passed we managed 3 months then couldn't stand it anymore because we have always had dogs, a house is not a home without dogs. When we brought Molly and Oscar home we were delighted with them, they made us laugh so much and you couldn't wish for 2 more beautiful dogs. Molly is a gorgeous big soft cuddly teddy bear of a dog. She loves nothing more than snuggling into people . She has a habit of when you walk past of sticking her paw out so she can touch you, but not to trip you up, when you are nearby or when you sit down. She also loves snuggling up to her mummy when she sleeps, especially now I’m in hospital and she is confused. Oscar is a little black labradog full of energy. He loves running more than anything else. When we go out walking Molly and I walk 2KM while Oscar probably runs about 4. Both of them play so beautifully together because they have been brought up as a family. They are just a gorgeous pair even though they have such different personalities. Oscar is also very loving as whenever you come home from a walk and after he has eaten he jumps up with you and gives you lots and lots of kisses to say thank you they also do the same when we arrive home from being out even if it’s just for a few minutes. We thought we would have Molly and Oscar as part of our family as long as we did Bella and Tigger, but unfortunately in mid March this year I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer which means we have to move back to the UK ASAP. We have done everything possible to try and take them but it's just not going to happen. So although they were supposed to be our forever dogs we reluctantly have to hand them back to HKDR in the hope that Sally and her amazing team can fine some nice people to take on Molly and Oscar as part of their family. We have treated them as we do our daughter, which means no cages, no hitting, just unconditional love as they give us. They're gorgeous dogs, very well house trained and very sociable to other dogs and people, even strangers in the street. However, Oscar is a great guard dog and lets you know if anything untoward is happening around his family and home. They play beautifully together and keep each other company. We have come to realise that it is actually easier to have 2 dogs rather than 1 because they keep each other company when you are away and wear each other out. They just deserve a loving home where they will get lots of love, treats and cuddles because they are so beautiful and special. We have never had any problems with them as they don't chew furniture or anything like that-their favourite toys are empty disposable plastic water bottles (with the lid off). My greatest wish is that they can be happy, spoilt and settled within a loving family home.
When Molly and Oscar were adopted it was supposed to be for ever

  1. Is there a place to donate to Mr Coates health fund? The SCMP article mentioned that friends had tried to fundraise, but didn’t provide a way to contribute.
