Weds 10th Aug: Good golly Miss Molly!

Molly already has a home
I'm not complaining, far from it, but my day off was spent responding to the many adoption enquiries that arrived in my email inbox throughout the day and well into the evening.  A lot of them were for the new pom Molly, although she had already left for a trial adoption by the afternoon.  There's no doubt that she's very cute, but her obsession with (Chinese) men and her outright flirting is really quite funny.  According to Iris, every time Molly stepped outside she was doing her best to attract the attention of the car wash guys next door, and it was the man of her potential new family that she instantly loved.  So often it's the other way round, that dogs are frightened of men, but obviously not for Molly.

Spotty and his littermates need foster homes
The two youngest new puppies went to a foster home today, leaving the four slightly older ones still waiting for a temporary or permanent relocation. They are staying at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre if you want to meet them, or can look after them at home until they are adopted. Cindy, our Foster Coordinator, is away on a short holiday break, so any enquiries can come to me at sally@hongkongdogrescue.com in the meantime.

Skye is the ultimate soppy dog, a dream for any family
One of our recent Tai Po arrivals who came from AFCD Sheung Shui is an incredibly sweet girl called Skye. Like almost every AFCD adult dog from the New Territories she was infected with heartworm and needed treatment in the form of two worm-killing injections in her back (you can always tell the heartworm dogs from the shaved patches on either side of their spines).  She so impressed Dr Tony (and his wife who was passing by the clinic) that they took Skye home with them to see how she would get along with the resident cats (plus two young children and Biggles the whippet).  It wasn't that Skye was a problem, rather one of the cats who took an instant and intense dislike to having another dog in the home, so for her own safety Skye had to leave.  If anyone reading this is looking for an incredibly sweet (and beautiful) young dog who is great with kids and yes, cats too, please consider Skye.  You won't find a more gentle and loving dog anywhere in Hong Kong.

Sadly Skye wasn't the only failure today, as Carrot was returned for having all of the behaviour issues that had been so carefully and thoroughly explained to the five-minute potential adopter.  It's incredibly frustrating when good advice is totally ignored by someone who apparently already knows everything there is to know about dogs.  It's not Carrot's fault, and it's really never the dog who has the problem, only the human lack of understanding and patience.
