Thurs 11th Aug: Last call for puppy fosters

I'm still hoping to find puppy fosters
I had hoped that the new baby puppies would have been picked up for fostering by now, but all four of the first litter are still at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre where there really isn't appropriate space for them,  so it seems I will have to bring them back to Lamma.  It's a difficult choice because whereas I have a safe and relatively large (for small puppies) area for them, it's outside.  There's shelter of course, but it's hot and humid and right now also very wet, so as a last-minute appeal can anyone take in a baby pup or two until Sunday and Whiskers N Paws?  Email me at sally@hongkongdogrescue.com if you can, and thank you.

Chewy is very beautiful as well as having a sweet nature
There's a Tai Po dog who also really needs a foster home, or even better a permanent one, because she has a mystery problem. Unlike many dogs that come to us from AFCD we know Chewy's background because she was surrendered, and I subsequently asked the AFCD staff to contact her ex-owners to find out more.  She had been living on a fishing boat, one of the big ones that you can see in the Aberdeen typhoon shelter, and had no health issues.  However since moving to Tai Po she has been suffering from non-stop sneezing (with runny nose), which we assume is an allergic reaction to something in the environment.  When she goes to Acorn for tests and stays there for a day or so, the problem stops, and it's frustrating and upsetting that we really can't do anything for Chewy other than to give her drugs to try to suppress the allergic reaction. She needs to go to a home where she can be away from whatever it is that bothers her so much, and she is such a lovely dog that I'm sure someone must want her.

There wasn't much to do outside today because of the rain, although of course I always have plenty of office-type work which includes dog-related enquries (and problems) as well as other stuff like the gala, which is being organised this year by Jamie Nunn (email jamie@hongkongdogrescue.com). I don't know whether it's Jamie's huge enthusiasm, the popular "Game of Thrones/Bones" TV show theme or the fact that our gala events are always great fun, but tickets are selling really fast this year and we are already close to achieving the minimum number required.  If you are planning on coming but haven't reserved your places yet, please don't leave it too late because we have lots of great stuff lined up to make the evening a really memorable one.

Titus with Barney at a school talk
We've been very busy at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, and the schnauzer couple Titus and Wendy went to a home together today, leaving just one of the breeder schnauzers still available.  There's no particular reason why Gretel wasn't taken when the group first arrived, it's just the way it happened.  With the weekend ahead and lots of potential adopters anticipated, I don't think Gretel has long to wait.
Wendy and Titus had to stay together

Poodle Tosca also found a very caring home who didn't mind the fact that she will need patella (kneecap) surgery on both back legs.
