Sat 11th Nov: A sad loss and happy beginnings

I spoke too soon about the parvovirus puppies, at least those we thought had escaped falling ill, as today gorgeous little Ronnie had to be rushed to Concordia when he started showing the typical symptoms but nothing could save him.  It's yet another reminder of how devastating this disease can be, and how quickly it can kill.  Now there are four of the original seven left, three of which have battled through and will hopefully make a full recovery, with only one left who has yet to succumb.  It can happen that way, that some in a litter will get very sick and possibly die, while others seem to be able to fight the virus and remain healthy.

Too-sweet Todd

We had two dogs returned today, one being older puppy Todd, and the other being small-medium adult Ella.  At least for Todd his ex-foster home saw what I had written about him being returned and very kindly offered to take him in again, but we need a forever home for him.  As a reminder, Todd failed miserably at being a guard dog as he's just too sweet natured, and that was the reason he came back.

Poor Ella is quite miserable now

Ella is one of the shy dogs that we took in as a group, and while they have all done really well thanks to the volunteers who are still referred to as the Elgin Volunteers, they're still a work in progress.  We thought Ella had been one of the success stories but it was short-lived, and now she's back at our North Street Centre where I'm sure she'll be given lots of love and attention by those who know her.
The shy "E" girls

Just as a happy hopeful ending to another of the shy "E" group, I'm optimistic that I'll be able to share some good news very soon.

Baxter has found his forever family

Poodle Baxter was a very popular boy after his photos were shared on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and in case you were hoping to come and meet him I have some bad news for you - he was adopted today.

Doglet Victor, one of the remaining members of the "V" litter who came to us as baby pups, was also adopted today, and I think he's going to love his new life.

Sunday is of course Puppy Party day at Whiskers N Paws, and a chance to meet and play with a selection of puppies, all ready to move to their new families.   We already have the next generation of puppies lined up to join the parties when they're a bit older, including the two "Rain Babies" and the five "Bucket Babies", all now in foster homes.  Hopefully I won't need to refer to the parvo pups by that name for much longer either, and they will be ready to begin the next stage of their lives.

Peak to Fong is now just two weeks away and the scramble for ticket/T-shirts has started.  They're still available at our Homing Centres and Whiskers N Paws, but you might need to hunt around for the size you want, with size Large already sold out.
