So much happens on a normal HKDR day that I have to think hard to remember everything to include in my blog. Today I'll start with yet another surrender request, this time for two chow chows, a breed that used to be quite popular but which seems to have fallen out of favour.
This pair, three and five years old, was being kept in Public Housing where dogs aren't allowed, and now they have been given their eviction notice. Many people who live in No Dogs buildings and apply to adopt say it doesn't matter because lots of other people keep dogs, but any day you could be the one who is told to get rid of the dogs or leave so we don't allow adoption to anywhere that doesn't officially welcome pets. If you can offer a home to these chow chows, or even one of them, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/.
I'm thrilled to be able to say that the surviving parvovirus puppies seem to have got over that critical stage, and we can now breathe a sigh of relief as they regain full health. You can see from this video that the games have already started, so they're obviously feeling a lot better. We believe that the two puppies who died (Raisin and Rollo) were from a different litter and source from the others, so that could explain why they weren't able to survive the disease.
Full bellies and snug in their foster home |
The Bucket Puppies at Tai Po will all be in foster homes by Saturday morning, so that's something else we can cross off the urgent list thankfully. Like the "R" puppies, these pups are too young for adoption individually unless there's an already-resident dog who will be happy to accept the puppy as a playmate.
However we do have puppies that are very much ready to start their new lives in forever homes, and three of these are currently staying at Whiskers N Paws where you can meet them any day of the week, as well as on Sundays at our regular Puppy Party, 2pm to 4pm. You can see these puppies in last Sunday's photo album Puppy Adoption Day 5th Nov 2023. The two Rain Babies are also coming close to being ready for adoption, and they're a gorgeous pair.
I heard that mini pinscher Otto had been adopted, but it wasn't until I saw the photo that I realised who the adopter was and that she had been an HKDR volunteer (and adopter) back in the days when we were based in Pokfulam. As it happens her previous ex-HKDR mini pin was also called Otto, but he was a little devil, totally unlike this sweet potato (overweight) Otto. I'm happy to know he's in such good and capable hands. We still have Otto's sister, Olga, waiting for a home, and she's also a very sweet little dog.

Olga is in a foster home but we have many gorgeous small and medium-sized dogs staying at our Kennedy Town Homing Centre, as well as larger dogs at Tai Po. We even have a labrador and a golden retriever, even if they aren't puppies or youngsters, so please come to meet the many medium to large hopefuls at 6 Shek Lin Road, Tai Po (remember to complete the adoption questionnaire first).
