Sat 13th May: The quickest foster fail on record

Speedy went first

Little Speedy was adopted today, and his sister Susie was also taken home on a foster basis with a potential adoption if everything worked out.  Ten minutes later (or so it seemed), Susie's adoption was confirmed, so brother and sister will stay together forever.
Susie was next

You may be wondering about Susie, thinking that she had already been adopted, and that's true, but not every adoption works out so we took her back.  Now of course we know that it was the best decision ever.

Yes, it's a double adoption!

I also want to mention that another adopted-and-returned puppy, who were were told was out-of-control untrainable, is doing fantastically in his new trial home.  I'm not going to mention his name at this point, but both Cactus and I read the update with smiles on our faces.  Once again, it was never the puppy who had the problem, rather the humans who failed to understand normal puppy behaviour.  It might be obvious, but puppies are baby animals with no understanding of the human perspective of things, such as biting hurts and shoes and furniture aren't toys to be chewed.  To expect a puppy to come fully trained in every way is the same as expecting a human baby to behave as an adult person.

I had been thinking that nobody would come to meet the dogs today because of the rain, but it was quite busy at our two Kennedy Town Centres, even if most potential adopters couldn't make up their minds and wanted to come back for a second visit.  Although of course it's understandable that when choosing a dog  you want to feel some sort of connection, it's common for any adult dog to feel a bit wary of the attention of strangers, and not many will immediately leap into your arms and ask to be cuddled.  That happens with puppies, but an adult dog will want to get to know you a bit before opening up.

I gather it's going to be another wet day on Sunday, but the Puppy Party at Whiskers N Paws will take place as usual from 2pm to 4pm, even if the number of puppies might be fewer than normal.   The puppies will still be at our Kennedy Town Centres (Shop 4, Brilliant Court, Sai Hong Lane, 28 Praya Kennedy Town, and Shop 4, 13-19 North Street) if you want to meet them there.

We also have all of the new and not-so-new small adults at North Street, but please be sure to complete the adoption questionnaire before visiting and wait for a reply.  https://hongkongdogrescue.com/.../adoption-questionnaire/.
