Mon 1st May: More new dogs, and more adoptions

While it was a holiday today, that means extra work for some of us as weekends and holidays are when the Homing Centres are busiest, and I was back to ALCVC (Ap Lei Chau Vet Clinic) to oversee the adoptions and fostering of the dogs that came in recently, and the four new ex-breeder poodle girls. These are all delightful, sweet and happy dogs, but not without physical issues as we see so many times in breeder dogs, especially the smaller ones.  The sad thing is that these problems are passed on to the puppies, and the cycle continues.

This couple came for a poodle and left with a pom

It was just a coincidence that the foster of the ex-breeder pom who had come from AFCD the other day, dropped by at ALCVC while a potential adopter couple had come to meet the poodles.  The couple left with the pom instead, while the foster took home a poodle, one with terrible knees which will need surgery as soon as possible.  Hopefully Twiggy's bent legs are fixable, but the condition is clearly long-term, and although Dr Tony is very good even he can't perform miracles.

Despite Twiggy's bent legs and the other poodles probably having bad knees to a lesser extent (with one having front leg issue), the conditions aren't painful and all four were very happy and playful.  If you would like to adopt one of these poodle girls (aged around four years, with one a bit older), please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/.  If you can foster one or both of the two remaining poodles, please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.

I'm so happy for sweet Lewis

Also leaving ALCVC today were shiba Ingrid (on a foster basis initially), another ex-breeder dog from AFCD, and sweet boy Lewis.  Poor Lewis has been overwhelmed by the change in his life and circumstances, and I think he's still in shock, but he'll be fine once he settles and has some routine in his life.

Lola had to give up her office job today

I'm delighted to say that bichon Lola was also adopted today, so her position as office assistant at Elgin Street has been taken over by senior poodle Bee, and deaf/blind boy Rex.

Another very happy meeting at North Street, Kennedy Town, today will see adopted-and-returned doglet Asher leaving on Tuesday.  I'm not going to celebrate too early, but if this home works out it will prove what I - we all - believe, that there's the right home for every dog.

That's why I'm holding out hope that poodle Google will also be offered a home that is just right for him, because at one year old he has a whole life ahead of him and he deserves the chance to live it. Google can't live with children, but he's a very typical super-smart dog who needs an experienced adopter who will work with our trainer, Cactus, to resolve the issues that have developed in the past few months.

Google needs a new home

I also urgently need a home for the brother/sister terriers, Roy and Rhonda.  The current foster has developed an allergy to their coats so they can't stay, however it's nothing to do with their behaviour as they are very sweet and well-behaved young dogs.  The two dogs need to stay together so please don't ask about one or the other.

The young French bulldog girl will arrive on Tuesday morning, so for anyone interested in any of our dogs or puppies, please start by completing the adoption questionnaire.  We will always choose the home that we feel can offer the best life for the dogs.
