Fri 3rd June: Hooray for Zak, Thomas and Tanner

Zak leaves brother Zippy behind

Puppy Zak was picked up from Whiskers N Paws today, meaning there's a vacancy as an in-store HKDR Ambassador, one that will no doubt be filled on Sunday after the regular puppy party.  The months that we were without a small Homing Centre meant that many puppies stayed in their foster homes far long than we would usually expect, and they're now either already being returned, or will be coming back to us at some point soon.  In the meantime, of course, we've been taking in younger pups, and while they're far more appealing in terms of their looks and cuteness factor, it's the slightly older ones (like Zak) who are much easier if you prefer to adopt an already-trained puppy.

Most of the requests for help that our trainer Cactus receives are about normal puppy behaviour such as playbiting (inevitable) and toilet training.  It seems that no matter how much we stress that puppies are just babies who need to learn how to live in a human world, there's an expectation that they are born with the full knowledge of an adult.  This is why we especially recommend the slightly older puppies if there are young children in the home.

We were all so happy to receive confirmation of Thomas and Tanner's adoption after a very short trial period, in fact less than a day. There's a possibility that Tessa, who came in the same group as the boys, will be joining them too, but for now the fact that two of our shy "kids" have found their forever home together is enough.

River is so pretty

I should mention that several of these shy dogs moved to Lamma, and while they're all very happy living there together, we still hope that they too will eventually be adopted, again in pairs.  River, the scruffy terrier, is gorgeous, but she's the shyest of all the dogs and has paired up with Rumble, the most confident.  They spend hours playing together, so it would be quite cruel to separate them, particularly for River.
The Cricket Family are always together
