As you can imagine not much happened today thanks to the heavy rain, and even the Lamma dogs who normally prefer to stay outside during the day chose to be indoors rather than in their usual spots. I wanted to go over to Hong Kong to do some shopping apart from anything else, but in the end decided against it. There's always plenty of work to keep me busy and the dogs are happy to have me around, so I was at home when I received a message about (yet another) awful case of dog breeding gone wrong. You can read the story in Chinese here https://www.facebook.com/hkanimalpost/posts/5646567422024907, but as always the English translation is complete nonsense.
From what I can gather, and from the videos sent to me, there were around thirty dogs in this nightmare of a place, some of which are huskies, but obviously they have been interbreeding with other dogs and the results are mixes of husky and whatever. Due to the dogs being crammed together in the small space they had been fighting, and many have infected wounds.
Again from what I was told, thirteen of the dogs were picked up by AFCD, and we were subsequently asked (by AFCD) if we could take four of them on Friday as they appear to be pregnant. Naturally we said yes, and I'll update on the situation and condition of the dogs tomorrow. I don't believe they're pure huskies.
Will there be a prosecution? I won't be holding my breath.
Binky-now-Pippin is second from left |
I do have some adoption news to share, as Binky joined three other small dogs in her new home, two of which are also ex-HKDR. It's lovely to see how quickly and easily Binky-now-Pippin fitted in, and she looks as though she's always been part of the family.
Dachshund Hunter has been in a trial home for a few days, and everything is going well so far. However the poor dog's teeth were in a really bad way so he's booked to have a dental on Friday. He'll probably go home with considerably fewer teeth than he had before, but at least he'll be a lot more comfortable. I really can't understand how a dog owner allows a dog's teeth to become so bad that they're almost falling out. Even the bad smell from the mouth should be enough to alert anyone to the fact that there's something wrong, and it's painful for a dog to eat when the teeth are so rotten.
Shiba inu Akio has moved to Kennedy Town from Tai Po, and he has a potential adopter coming to meet him. Akio isn't too happy at being confined inside the small Homing Centre, and we know that shibas in general need to have space to be happy. The potential home has plenty of indoor and outdoor space, so I hope this adoption works out.
Congrats to Binky now Pippin on a wonderful new home. XXX She looks like she was always there! XXX
