Mon 16th May: Another very sad case

This poor dog has lost her puppies somehow

The story of the "rooftop huskies" continued today with a very sad case of another arrival, a female we thought was just about to give birth.   While we were busy trying to find a foster home that would accept not just a single husky but also her litter of newborns, we heard from the vet at ALCVC that the dog had already recently had her pups, and that she seemed to have an infection, quite possibly birth related.  It's also highly likely that there were complications from stress at the time all of the huskies were rescued, and that the poor mother-to-be had to give birth in a situation as far from ideal as it's possible to imagine.  Although now knowing there is only a single dog needing foster care and we have somewhere for (now called) Trinity to go to, she'll have to stay in hospital until her condition stabilises. The poor girl must be completely traumatised by everything that has happened to her, and I hope a new life will quickly help her heal from the past.

The other rescued huskies were taken by their foster parents for health checks, and remarkably they are clear of heartworm, something we were assuming they'd test positive for.

There's further good news as dachshund Hunter had his adoption confirmed, even though the poor boy is minus almost all of his teeth now.

Gabriel has 4-legged friends to play with

Gryffin and his new family

Three of the poodles that came as an assumed family group have now found homes, with Gabriel and Gryffin leaving today, and Gus due to go on Tuesday.  They're still young at only two years of age, and with so many enquiries about them we will choose the homes that we feel can offer the best life.  I realise that means a lot of disappointed potential adopters, but the dogs and their best interests come first.

Scribble is back with us again

Two more terrier types are coming from AFCD on Tuesday, presumably the siblings of in-and-out Jigsaw.   We also have another scruffy terrier type back again, as Scribble was surrendered by her adopters.  As we know from past experience, not every dog suits every home, and next time we'll make sure that we get it right for Scribble.

Elgin Street is taking shape

In case you're wondering what's happening with the Elgin Street location, the renovations are  completed and now it's just a matter of installing the (donated) furniture and other necessary equipment for the training room. Our office staff are still temporarily working from there, thankfully now with proper lighting and air conditioning, until the currently-under-renovation office and new Red Dog Centre in Kennedy Town is ready for occupation.  Elgin Street will serve as an outlet for all and any merchandise, dog-related or for humans, such as our HKDR T-shirts, and the lower floor will become a dog training centre.  I hope to be able to share details of group classes soon, and there will also be individual sessions training available.
