Weds 18th Jan: New dogs arrive all the time

At least this girl can put the past behind her
We were expecting two bulldogs from a breeder today, both female, four and six years, but at the last minute the breeder changed her mind and decided to keep the younger one for further puppy production.  It's very upsetting of course to know that this dog was so close to freedom and a real life, and then suddenly it was snatched away from her, but even more upsetting to know the reason why is because there are many people who are happy to buy the puppies.  To put it very simply, without demand the breeders would go out of business very quickly.  No matter how many new laws or regulations are made to try to protect the welfare of the adults and their puppies, the breeders will still continue their evil trade behind closed doors and with de-barked dogs to make sure no cries are heard.  I cannot for the life of me understand how cold-hearted people can be when it comes to knowing full well the suffering and horror of the breeding industry, yet still choosing to buy their puppies.  If anyone can foster Bertha (the bulldog's new name), or even better give her a forever home, please let Cindy know at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.

New public housing
We also had another poodle surrendered today from public housing, so if you are looking for a smaller-sized dog and are still waiting please keep checking in as new dogs arrive all the time.  We really never know from day to day what to expect and your perfect choice could be the next one to walk through the door.   The new boy is seven years old and toilet trained, so he's ready to walk straight into a new home.

If you have adopted a puppy that came from AFCD you will have been given a free desexing form to use when the puppy is at the appropriate age, which we recommend as being six months for a female and eight months for a male.  These forms are valid for a year after which time they have to be renewed, and as last year's forms are now invalid anyone holding such a form which hasn't yet been used will have to submit it to AFCD, or send back to us, for replacement.  For puppies that were adopted in the latter part of 2016 we held the desexing forms back as we knew they would expire before they were needed, but a few adopters have older puppies that are now ready for their surgery and are finding that the forms they have don't work any more.  Don't worry, the desexing is still free but you will have to let us know so we can sort it out.
