Sun 8th Jan: Happily surprised

I was wrong in my prediction, happily as it turned out, because there were quite a few potential adopters at Whiskers N Paws in the afternoon  Puppy Adoption Day 9th Jan 2022, with Bill being a very popular boy, but as always there's only one of each when it comes to the unique mixed breeds.  Benjamin Po was today's photographer, and as a newish addition to the team his photos are really wonderful.  Take a look for yourself.
I'm waiting for an updated photo

There were two more puppy adoptions in addition to Bill's, and these were Sandy and Sugar, sisters who'd fallen victim to parvovirus and had luckily survived.  They needed to spend time in a foster home as the virus can still be shedding for some time after recovery, and it wasn't a huge surprise when Cindy was asked by the foster parent if could adopt both puppies.

Gorgeous Luke

Also with a home to go to (if it doesn't turn into another failed foster) is gorgeous Luke, who made his debut at Whiskers N Paws today too.  His adopters-to-be haven't moved into their new apartment yet so we'll have to see what happens there. Either way we don't have to worry about Luke's future.

Coffee is a 10 year-old girl

Rather than adoptions we had two dogs surrendered to our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, a female poodle called Coffee, ten years old, and eight year-old beagle, MJ, who has really bad cherry eyes on both sides.  They had apparently been fixed at one point, but I have never personally seen a single case where stitching the tear gland back in place works.  Inevitably the problem just returns, so cutting the "cherry" off is the only permanent remedy, and we'll get this done as soon as possible.

When we're asked if we'll accept dogs for surrender, if they're small sized the answer is always yes, unless there's a very serious aggression problem. However in many cases the "urgent" pleas for help end up being nothing of the kind and we're more of a standby solution.  I have given up writing about dogs that we're expecting to be brought to us because more often than not they end up being passed to someone else (sadly in most situations).
