Tues 7th Dec: Dogs are never too old to find forever families

Lennox is 9 years old

The dachshund I wrote about yesterday was picked up today from AFCD Shatin, along with two older puppies, around six months of age.  We hadn't been sent any photos for some reason, so we didn't know whether the dachshund was long or short-haired, and as you can see from the photo he's the long-haired variety and a very handsome boy too.

Little Pixie

Pixie was today's lucky Ap Lei Chau dog, and in addition to her adoption photo I was sent others showing that Pixie's quite the little circus performer (an ethical, force-free circus I should add). She likes to jump on anyone's back when the opportunity presents itself, giving her a much better view of what's going on.  Dogs are so smart and funny, and I love it when their individuality starts to show.

Pixie jumped on any available back

The end of the month means the vet clinic invoices arrive and are due for payment, and every month it's quite a shock.  There are the standard inevitable tick fever cases, and I don't think it's my imagination when I say there's more than ever before.  Not only that, but there's a huge increase in drug resistance, meaning puppies have to undergo multiple treatments over many months using every option available.  Then there's heartworm, which is almost inevitable in every adult dog that we take in from the New Territories.  Just as with tick fever, it's not even just the cost of the treatment that's the issue, but the time it takes before the dog is finally completely free of all traces of the disease.

Many of the smaller dogs that have been coming to us need surgery on their legs, eyes or just desexing (which also applies to all the adult dogs), and that all adds up to a considerable amount.  If you're able to help with these costs it would be very much appreciated, and you can check out this link for details of how to make a donation: https://hongkongdogrescue.com/donate/one-off-donations/

Brownie is adopted!

Just to show that a dog is never too old to be adopted, I'm delighted to announce that senior labrador Brownie is now officially a family member after her long-term fosters joined the "Failed Foster Club".  Brownie was one of a group of older labradors that were surrendered from the same home (a term I use lightly as they were never actually allowed in the home and lived on concrete outside). Sadly Brownie is the only surviving member of that group, which makes her adoption doubly special.
