Thurs 11th Nov: Adding to the shiba inu catalogue

Timmy

I'm reminded of the Tai Po dogs that are still waiting when I see their photos posted on Facebook by the team there, and I can't believe they haven't been adopted yet.  Dogs like Dolly and Timmy, two of those recently featured, both of whom are fantastic characters, loving, sweet, kind, funny - everything that anyone would want in a dog. They're both still very young too, so why haven't they been taken home?
Dolly is absolutely gorgeous

Of course size plays a big part in a dog's chances, but regardless of how big or small a dog is you still need enough space for it to be able to move around freely and have its own place in the home.  Many small dogs have huge personalities, and I remember very clearly that when I had small dogs living with me in my Lamma house they were right up there in terms of energy and their place in the heirarchy.  Nobody pushed Murphy or Sandy around!  This is one of the reasons we insist on potential homes for our two shiba inus Donny and Goji having lots of space, because without that they would be impossible to live with.

Some shiba inus are different, and I'm thinking of the breeder dogs that come to us.  I think the way they are kept and treated breaks a dog's spirit, and they're often subdued and quiet dogs, nothing like the brave, strong, and frankly challenging shiba inu that I would say is typical of the breed.

Yoshi pre-surgery and still smiling

Young shiba Yoshi, who was lucky to escape the breeder because of his badly broken leg, had surgery with Dr Tony at Acorn to fix the bones. and hopefully he will make a full recovery.  He's a sweet dog and young too.
One of today's new females

Ritzy is one of the broken ones, very sweet, but also terrified of going out.  I assume she had never experienced life outside a cage before.

This mother was just taken from her pups

Today we took in two more ex-breeder shiba females, one still full of milk from feeding her puppies, a cash cow for the breeder.  They're now called Yoko and Aiko, although I don't know which name has been assigned to which dog.

If you're interested in adopting a shiba inu we have a  number of them now.  Damson (female) and Gumbo (male) have both been with us since they were puppies, Donny and Goji arrived a few months ago, with Yoshi, Ritzy, Aiko and Yoko being new.  Please complete the adoption questionnaire if you're interested in giving any of them a home: www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

Basil looks huge in the photo!

With the adoption of bichon frise Basil today, we have just one left (Bertie) from that particular group of new arrivals.  All of these dogs are very sweet, so you'd better hurry if you want to be the lucky family to take Bertie home.
