Sat 13th Nov: Six out, three in

Yoko (l) only arrived on Thursday

I love weekends, not because it means a day off work (never happens) but because it's the time when we see most adoptions take place.  It was just such a day at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, as six lucky dogs were taken home, including Yoko, one of the new shiba inu ex-breeder dogs, and little Tyler, who had only recently had one of his legs amputated.  The others were Bonnie, one the mini "border collie" types, Bertie the bichon frise, terrier Bella and Robbie, a beautiful all-sort (adoption photo to follow).

Adorable Tyler had to have one leg removed

However it wouldn't be a typical day if we didn't also get a surprise request to take in three new dogs, two of which turned out to be puppies and the other a young poodle.  At first we thought that Hansel and Gretel were small-sized adults, but it turned out that they're six months old meaning they have some growing to do.  The poodle is now called Max, and I have no doubt that he'll be gone in a flash.

What's worth noting is that none of these dogs that we've taken in have been microchipped, whether they came from breeders, private homes or anywhere else unknown.  So much for the laws which state that every puppy over the age of five months must be microchipped and licensed.  Without enforcing such laws they are completely pointless, and it's left to the animal rescue charities to get everything done.

Sunday is puppy day at Whiskers N Paws, 2pm to 4pm, and I should mention that several of the current puppies available are smaller than the average mixed breed.  They're not going to be small-sized adults, but not large either.  Please note that being smaller doesn't mean a dog doesn't need proper exercise, a concept which seems to be prevalent.   If you're interested in adopting any of the dogs or puppies, please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

Finally a huge thanks to Buddy Bites for today's incredible donation of food for the HKDR dogs!  Buying enough food to feed hundreds of our four-legged guests is one of the big monthly expenses, so donations like this are amazing.

We received 1050kgs of BuddyBites food donation this month!
For every 2kgs of Buddy Bites you order, they will donate 1kg to local dog shelters. The food comes in different formulas for both adult dogs and puppies, so the donation is really helping us. Thank you so much!
