Tues 13th Aug: Six newcomers plus one

Salty at Ap Lei Chau and free of his string
The new small dogs arrived in the morning, thanks once again to Kaz of Freedom Rides, and I'd arranged to meet up with them and our HKDR van first thing in the afternoon before going to AFCD for licensing, and then on to Acorn for the check-up and vaccination.  Our van driver Ming and I communicate using his limited English, my even worse Cantonese and mostly sign language, but he managed to convey to me that there was a "dog" when I got off the sampan.  I saw a leash in his hand and some concerned-looking uniformed women in the Marine Department building, so understood there must be a dog needing help.  The poor thing was at the end of a pier, completely terrified and trailing some nylon string that was tied round his neck.  I guessed he came from a fishing boat, as these dogs always do, so using our combination of signs and limited language, after a lot of thrashing and crocodile rolls Ming and I managed to get the dog into a crate.  I was able to get a good look at the teeth so could see he was young, no more than a year old, so one more was added to the group heading off to Acorn.  Salty is now in a private room off the office at Ap Lei Chau and has settled well.
Scamp is also an older puppy

Older puppy Magic

Other than big terrier-type Benji who is estimated to be four years old, and Scuba two, all of the other new dogs are no older than a year, small-sized and very friendly.  I suspect older puppy Magic might be the brother of Scamp, and even the other two youngsters could be related as they look similar and certainly seem to know each other.  Magic, Suzie (the only female) and Speedy joined Scamp at my neighbour's house on Lamma, but I imagine they won't be staying for long given their very adoptable size, age and temperament.   As always please complete the Adoption Questionnaire before asking for details or to meet any of the dogs.   I plan to take them to Whiskers N Paws on Sunday if not adopted before then.
Scuba (2 yrs) and Benji (4 years)

There was some intrigue about one of the newcomers, a small-sized puppy girl whose leg was a bit odd.  After X-rays the reason was clear, there were three pins holding an old break in place, so they will need to be removed.
Little Poppy had a broken leg now healed
Speedy (male)
Suzie

Just as we thought we had some breathing space I was told there were eight puppies at AFCD in Sheung Shui, and two more at AFCD Pokfulam.  As you all know by now we don't want to keep any new dogs or puppies at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre so we need foster homes please.  Contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com if you can help out, and everything that you need will be provided so there's no cost involved other than your own transport.
