Thurs 19th Jan: Introducing the Pure Canine Crush Collection

The new puppies look exactly like Puma
I took the new bulldog girl to Acorn today after stopping off at AFCD to get her registered and picking up four new young puppies while I was there.  The kennels were full of puppies again and I really don't know how we're going to be able to cope with such an influx when the time comes to take them all out. This is how and why we end up with lots never finding homes, simply because there are too many all at once and just not enough adopters.  Why on earth don't people do the right thing and get their dogs desexed rather than expecting others to deal with their irresponsibility?  The puppies are innocent, as are the mother dogs, it's the human factor that is failure.

Bertha needs emergency surgery
Today's lucky  puppies were checked and vaccinated first, and then it was time for the bulldog to be given the once-over.  It was immediately clear that the poor girl was in a bad way, and I'm not just talking about the crunched-up ears or even the vaginal discharge.  Dr Tony saw that her swollen teats were full of pus, so she was immediately admitted to hospital and put on a drip in preparation for surgery first thing in the morning.

Someone asked me if breeders like this couldn't be reported, and the sad thing is that this particular one was, but with the non-existent protection for animals that's in place right now nothing was done. I don't know if the new Cap139B Animal Trader laws that come into effect in March are going to make a difference, but what we have been told is that with the proposed licensing process the breeders will also have to agree to allowing access to AFCD inspectors.  Opponents of the amendments say there aren't enough AFCD staff to tackle the problem or that the breeders will just stay underground as they are now, and I think that's probably true to a large extent.  This particular breeder has been told that she will have to apply for a license in March, but I also know that she has already moved a lot of dogs to another secret location.

Seeing the poor bulldog like that today made me very angry, and it's incredibly frustrating and upsetting that there are so many terrible breeders out there who are feeding the demand for puppies through the suffering of the mothers.  Hong Kong lags so far behind on all matters of animal welfare and protection that it's quite shocking, and the government should be seriously embarrassed.  with all profits being donated to HKDR.

Changing the subject to something completely different, we're delighted to announce the launch of a new range of dog-related sportswear by the Pure Group.  The Pure Canine Crush tops are available now at their outlets in IFC, Pulse, Kowloon, Central and online at http://be-pure.com/en/  with all profits being donated to HKDR.
